Mine should be arriving tomorrow (purchased it a while back with a pre-order book not realising it was in the nominations til I saw it the other day). Not sure how difficult it will be for me to read so I might just take it at my own pace.

Awesome, and fair… especially since the level is estimated. I picked Other, mostly b/c schedules stress me out sometimes. So I’ll probably read ahead of the club & take notes in advance, if we go with that.

Any chance you could share the chapter pg numbers when you get yours? Kindle version only has “positions”, and no ToC. Amazon physical preview also didn’t show ToC

I’m going to read the sample from Amazon and then decide if I want to keep with the book. I’ve had a few books lately that I lost interest in pretty quickly, so this will help me both keep my club reads down and let me be noncommittal :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That said, feel free to ignore any of my votes above if they cause a tie or something.

Happy to send info on the ToC once it arrives. It’s still sitting with customs atm so hoping that gets cleared and it then heads up my way over night for delivery tomorrow :crossed_fingers:

There isn’t a ToC and most of the chapters start part way through a page but there is a break with the chapter number written so it’s clear enough. Page numbers for the start of each chapter are as follows:

Chapter 1 - 4
Chapter 2 - 20
Chapter 3 - 42
Chapter 4 - 51
Chapter 5 - 64
Chapter 6 - 80
Chapter 7 - 101
Chapter 8 - 111
Chapter 9 - 124
Chapter 10 - 143
Chapter 11 - 161
Chapter 12 - 182
Chapter 13 - 196
Chapter 14 - 209
Chapter 15 - 238
Chapter 16 - 258
Chapter 17 - 273
Chapter 18 - 290
Chapter 19 - 310
Book ends on page 330

Seems to be quite a bit of variation in chapter length from what I can tell.

At least there’s lots of breaks. The 120 page chapters in a lot of books kill me :joy:

Omg for real :sob:

Wait, what?! :eyes:

I haven’t even seen a book like that in English (novel wise). I’m now dreading coming across chapters like that as I’ll feel like I need to just keep reading til I pass out :joy:

It’s particularly a problem in fantasy I find - especially with battle scenes (which I start skimming half the time). Idk other genres as well

Yeah fantasy LNs are the worst offenders, but I’ve seen some pretty long chapters in slice of life too.

They all usually have some paragraph breaks, but it’s just so draining to be on the same chapter for a week

Well that covers almost all of my light novels and most of my novels too

Re: optional schedule - it looks like all the chapters are under 30 pgs… so I’m just gonna say 1 chapter per week for optional schedule (which it sounds like most of us won’t be following anyway)

@Sataniel , @CatDQ - did either of you have preference on start date? If not, we’ll go with Oct 19

I’ve no preference though I will most likely end up reading at my own pace.

Oct 19th is the earliest out of the options in so I support it.

I read the first chapter. Got a bit worried on the first page, when there were a bunch of 神社 related lookups (19!), but then it mostly calmed down. There was one other page where I had 11… but otherwise 2 or 3 per page.

The 3rd person narration was throwing me for a bit, but I’m re-acclimated, I think. Also I like the general tone and flow so far. I like that the protagonist is 人見知り, but doesn’t feel like a stereotype. And the initial setup was pleasantly quick/smooth. The book’s already making me want to take up 弓道 :joy: (not likely to ever happen, but a girl can dream…)

I’ll share more thoughts as I get further in

Random question but with what you’ve read so far, do you feel it’s harder grammar wise than the 26? level or is this maybe on point?

Trying to figure out if I should make a start now while I have almost a week to get used to it or if I should focus on other things while off to get more out of the time and come back to this at my own pace
