🔮 Home Thread for ふしぎアイテム博物館 || Children's Book Club 💎

Starting with less Pages and gradually increasing Sounds good. Then I can do a bit more intensive Reading than extensive Reading in the beginning.

Will we make a vocabulary list in This book club?

Depends on if people want to fill one out. I won’t have time to fully fill out a vocab sheet but I can make a document for one if you want.

Thank you. I will try to write the list. I Hope that there won’t be too many homophones This time and that I will be able to follow the schedule.

I’m planning on reading extensively so I won’t be of much help with vocabulary, but if you have any trouble while reading, be sure to ask the club. I’m sure everyone will be happy to (try to :face_with_hand_over_mouth:) help!

Thank you. I think I will start with Putting in the words that I decided to learn, and If I have enough time I will try to do the Rest.

When I read my First book I wasn’t able to do anything Else besides Translating. I don’t want This to happen again while Reading This book.

This book uses more kanji than the first grade reader, so it’ll be easier to tell which words are being used. There will still be some words spelled in hiragana only, but if you’re confused about which word is being used just ask in the club threads and we’ll help!

I also just wanted to throw it out there that dictionary apps like “Japanese” and “Yomiwa” allow you to make lists out of the words you’re looking up. You could make a list for ふしぎアイテム博物館 and add words to it as you read. This is what I do! I like it because I can identify what I’m looking up more than once and can prioritize in my studying.

I tried This already with jpdb, but when I typed in whole sentences it gave me the wrong words.

Thanks for the Tip with Japanese and yomiwa. I will use Japanese for This book.

I already uploaded a few Pages to Chat GPT and asked it to create a vocabulary list. There are so many words that I don’t know yet. This is so demotivating.

Don’t think about how many words you don’t know, just think about the task in front of you, like: ‘Today, I will read one page and look up the unknown words.’ Then, keep doing that, and before you know it, you’ll know a lot of words! Right now you’re in the phase where it feels like a struggle all the time to read in Japanese, but if you keep working at it slowly, you’ll be out of that phase a lot faster than you might think.

As for the start date, looks like next week is the leader on the poll. @CherryApple and @Marifly , you all voted for July 19th, is there any particular reason you’d like to wait until then? I’m willing to delay the start date if it means more people are ready to participate, so let me know if you’d absolutely prefer to wait until then.

I’m still doing the exercises of Genki 1 and was hoping I could Finish both books before we start Reading. But I’ve only reached Lesson 9 today.

Maybe I will have to read the book in my own Speed. I’m not sure If I will be able to follow the schedule.

Reading at your own pace is fine too!

Also, I just went and got out one of the first children’s novels I read in Japanese. When I started, I circled every word on the first page that I didn’t know. Here it is:

As you can see, it’s nearly all the words :joy: We all have to start somewhere!

My book would definitely Look the Same If it were physical. I wish the bookwalker App would have more colors for highlighting.

Myself, I for sure remember books with more than 30 look-ups per page, but it also got better with time. Though when I’ll read my first L40 book end of this year it might again look the same

Btw: I am kind of wondering where you found 赤レンガ before that you did not encircle it

Btw2: Which book is that? It might be グースバンプス 1 恐怖の館へようこそ (グースバンプス 世界がふるえた恐い話) | L21 from your list.

I added the book to my wishlist. When I was still in school I read a lot of These books from R.L.Stine. I liked them alot.

Just added it myself :smirk: I am always in search of books with a touch of horror, but so far only one book (続 恐怖のむかし遊び | L24) made me suddenly aware of strange noises in my apartment, so that I went and checked them…

Just that I’m reading too many books and I want to finish some of them before I start something new! I don’t mind if we start earlier.

I think we don’t need to delay the start Date. I Just finished Genki 1 Lesson 9 and I feel like I’ll Hit a Wall again very soon, where I can’t take in more new Grammar and the number of unknown Words will grow again. I will Switch to another Textbook for repetition and focus a bit more on vocabulary.

I think I must have neglected to circle that one because I certainly didn’t know it :joy:

Yep, that’s it!

Although, for what it’s worth, I thought the second book https://learnnatively.com/book/230df1abb9/ was a better story. I got a used set of all 10 Goosebumps books that were translated into Japanese so I’m planning to read them all.

Ok, sounds like we can start next week! I’ll get the schedule set up later today.
