Summary

What’s that? You want to go to the Museum of Mysterious Items?

The door leading to the museum appears in front of a child with a problem. Beyond the door is an enchanting and fascinating space! Many special items are on display, The mysterious and beautiful curator, Yakata Takarano, and her energetic assistant, Mei, are on hand to help, Yakata Hono, the enigmatic and beautiful curator, and her energetic assistant, Mei, welcome you.

The “Calculation Demon” will tell you the answer to even the most difficult calculations, The “Past Camera,” which captures the past, and “En-Geru-chan,” which connects you to the person you love.

They all sound very useful, but be careful when using them. Not all good things can happen to you.

How it works

We create a reading schedule with a set number of pages to work through each week. Each week, we create a new discussion thread for that week’s reading. In those threads, we discuss everything from vocabulary and grammar to the characters and story.

How do I join in?

  • Get yourself a copy of the book (see “Where to purchase” below)
  • Click on the participation poll below to let us know you’re planning to join in
  • Set this thread to “watching” so you get updates on the group (go just past the last post in this thread, click on the grey box that says “normal” or “tracking” and change this to “watching”)

Where to purchase

Physical: Amazon JP | CDJapan
Digital: Bookwalker

Pace poll

I’ve bought the digital edition on Bookwalker, but it doesn’t show page numbers on the table of contents, so I’m not sure about page numbers for the physical edition.

Bookwalker is listing 188 pages total. Please vote on the pace that works for you below:

I would be comfortable reading…
  • ~10 pages per week (18 weeks)
  • ~15 pages per week (13 weeks)
  • ~20 pages per week (10 weeks)
  • Something else that I’m going to suggest in the comments

I have the digital Version, but it’s no problem If we wait for someone who orders the physical Version.

Just wait a few months and you too can be under the crushing weight of too many bookclubs plus your own reads :joy:

Welcome to the book club!

Looks like so far no one’s ordering a physical copy. I’ll wait a couple of days just to check but if we all have the digital copy we can get started soon. Hope everyone’s excited to enter the mysterious museum :eyes:

If everyone is Reading the digital edition from bookwalker, we could use a specific font size for counting pages.

With a Font size of 100% the book has 227 Pages.

I am, (unfortunately?) reading the Amazon version, which I’m sure has its own wild way to count pages.

Does it Show you the Page Numbers and the Font size?

It has page numbers but they are based on “locations” in Kindle books, not the font size. I don’t know how you’d convert between the two…

What do you mean with Locations? I don’t have a Kindle and don’t understand what you mean. Dies ist mean that the Page Number doesn’t Change when you Change the Font size?

Yeah, the pages don’t change based on the font size, but they also don’t match the print page numbers.

How many pages does it have in Kindle?

I think the page count on Bookwalker depends on the size of the screen, so it shows differently on every device.

It’s fine, though, I’ll choose us stopping points and make sure to post the last line of the section for every week so we all stop in the same place.

There are a lot of Pictures. We could use them.

How many pages will we read If the % is the same?

The “pages” will probably be different for each person depending on edition/device, but I’ll try to keep the pages per week roughly what we decide on with the pacing poll. It won’t be exact though.

Start date poll!

I want to start…
  • Right away (July 5th)
  • In 2 weeks (July 12th)
  • In 3 weeks (July 19th)
  • Some other time (comment)

I meant: at the Moment 10, 15 and 20 Pages have the Same amount of votes. What will we do If This doesn’t Change?

Oh, I see! I will choose. :slightly_smiling_face: Right now, I’m thinking we can start with 10 pages/week since I want the club to be accessible for beginners. Then we can vote partway through the book on whether we want to increase the pace.
