• Please blur/hide any major events in the current week’s pages (however early they occur), like so:

 • (that’s
text here
).

 • If you have a question about grammar, vocab, the story, cultural things or literally anything else related to the book — ask! There is really no need to be hesitant. If it’s something you are wondering about, chances are someone else will be thankful you asked first, lots of people enjoy answering questions, you learn something new, and the thread gets more lively. It’s a win-win on all fronts!

(re: the first art for this week’s reading) そうか。。。 The director is the girl from the cover. I don’t know why I didn’t figure that out. Her name is 宝野ヤカタ. Very punny. :joy:

(next page) Hmm… The director smiles at our MC and she somehow can’t calm down. And her name is Yuri. Hmm…

(and then…) She really did forget to return the DVD.

And I’m done for the week! This is so far shaping up to be a fun read.

Wait, I thought we were done reading 時間割男子 :slightly_smiling_face:

So far this book is pretty similar to ふしぎ駄菓子屋 although our museum director seems a bit more sinister than Beniko. I’m waiting to see what the catch is when you over-rely on an item or turn it in late or something.

Interesting, I would have said the opposite, although I did only read the first book, so maybe she’s less ominous when you get to know her better :joy:

The reason I thought the museum director was sinister is because our main character notes that she’s shaking and feels scared by her smile, plus there was the description of her eyes staring :eye: :eye: like you’ll be sucked in and the whole thing about how maybe it wasn’t a good idea to tell her her name. Plus Mei says that Yakata wouldn’t want her to give the warning about over-relying on the item. I feel like that means she wants people to fail…

VS. Beniko, who is pretty neutral on the outcome of her sweets. She specifies in a later book that whether a customer has a good or bad result with the sweet is up to them, so it’s not like she’s rooting for them to fail, she just basically provides them with a choice and then observes the outcome.

Yeah that’s fair now that you point that out. I now agree :joy:

It’s because the narrator has a crush  (I’m joking…) I actually thought the book did a good job of establishing the director and the museum as a little creepy and the exchange between Yuri and Yakata was suitably tense. Goosebumps level of creepy, but I was into that when I was a kid!

I also can’t wait until we see the monkey’s paw curl. :see_no_evil:

I can’t await the day, when I will also be able to understand all These little Details and feel what the Protagonist feels, like when I’m reading in German or english.

Keep reading and you’ll get there eventually.
