Spoilers should always be hidden using spoiler blur.
When discussing a specific section, please mention where you are in the book, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting, but please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week.
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That’s a welcome part of the discussion too, and other readers will be happy to help.
We’re a bit ahead of the game here, as the LN club’s previous book hasn’t quite finished up, but I wanted to go ahead and set this up so people can adjust their schedules. That book should finish the week of October 13, so:
I’m still a bit in between maybe and yes (strongly leaning to yes), but I think it should be possible seeing the schedule of my remaining bookclubs the last week of the ABC is the 1st one of November, but I should be fine with starting this one end of October I hope.
I will likely be closing the start date/pace polls on Monday, Oct 20. So far it’s looking like we start Oct 27, with pace being tied. If no tiebreakers, I’m thinking 25 pgs/week; I figure that should be doable for all voting parties so far. You didn’t vote for it @NihongoLearner19, but would 25 pgs/week work for you?
How does that look? For those using this for bingo it just baaarely fits in the year, haha. Apologies to @snowwater; I have two weeks at 30+ pages because the chapter lengths were weird, and I didn’t want to have 15 page weeks. (Honestly I considered merging サー・ジョンの十字架 into a single week as well, but three in a row felt like too much? What do you think?) If you’d like an alternate schedule drawn up where they’re split I’m happy to set it up. Otherwise most weeks are closer to 20 pages than 25. Tagging those “maybes” (@NihongoLearner19@shitsurei@Shiori) if you were concerned about schedule pace!
What does everyone think about threads? I figure we either keep all discussion in this home thread, or I’ll break out a thread per chapter. Thoughts?
I’m faffling between reading according to schedule or reading at my own pace. It’s more fun to sit and chat with you all if I follow the schedule, but this is slated to be my last bingo book, so the potential for that blackout dopamine is strong…
I’m probably booked up through the JLPT…so you all go on without me… maybe I’ll pick it up in December and race to finish with you all, but… probably not
It’s ok for me! My biggest concern is that right now I’m still reading with the ABC (which is quite fast paced) at Wanikani for the next 2-3 weeks, but the 30+ pages weeks here are end of Nov, so I’ll be done and recovered by then.
Btw, I think there’s something wrong with week 6 - it says oct 27 again… (and a chapter per thread or all discussion here are both fine for me; I guess it depends on how much people actually discuss the book)
I don’t mind going a bit faster at the end to finish it before the new year (I’ll probably try to do so myself anyway), but it might complicate our schedule…
Hello all! Week one of 伯爵と妖精 beings today! I’ll keep all discussion in this thread; if it turns out we have a large number of participants, I’ll break out discussion into separate threads in future weeks.
It’s crunch time at work and I’m drowning. Whatever time I have left, I usually spend brain dead in front of at best anime, at worst random YouTube slop.
I’m already failing to keep up with the BL book club, there’s just no way I can make it in the foreseeable future
No worries; I’m slammed this week in particular myself, so there’s a good chance I start off behind next week. These are busy days for all of us, so read what you can, and if you can’t the threads will be here next year.
You’re not the only one, I’m having some guests over for this week and I’m quite positive now that I won’t have time to start on this book but I’ll try to catch up next week!
