Buying one, not reading, I guess

I believe @bungakushoujo is your forumite.

@bungakushoujo I think you have been summoned. :eyes:

Edit: LUL… @eefara Great minds and all that…

I have been summoned! If you only get one, make it 本気で学ぶ韓国語! It is a fantastic holistic resource and it’ll teach you a lot of Japanese grammar too.

I was waffling between that and the 初中 one. I decided since I was getting Quartet 1, where the readings are technically a little low for my level (but my speaking and writing is probably around there) that I’d level up for the reading only book.

Or you know, I might go also grab Quartet 2 since it’s only ¥3000 without tax and now I have another bookstore mission from @bungakushoujo

I got the same N2 by manga textbook when I was in Japan earlier this month :+1:. Hopefully we can both manage to study it instead of wasting our money. :joy:

Big haul from my recent (first) Japan trip. Mostly blu-rays.

Turns out the bottom-left manga is problematic. I really should stop buying manga based on the cover without looking more into it. :disappointed:

My first physical light novels as well as some bonus FMA anniversary books.

Some art books and a grammar book.

The only thing that I was fully determined to find during my trip, all of Supernatural on Blu-Ray with the Japanese dub.
It was tough finding it all. I finally finished the collection on my last day in Japan. Almost died when I finally found the last season.
Currently ripping all of them to my streaming server. Can’t wait to start watching in Japanese.

More Japanese dubs

Already tried the Kanji game and I hate it.
Unfortunately I can’t play the Famicom games yet because I don’t have a dumper for it. Successfully dumped everything else already.

まちカドまぞく S1 | L30 artbook and an old magazine from Summer of '91

There were a few other things that I wanted to buy, but I didn’t manage to find them. Oh well, always next time.

Bonus round:

I was having trouble finding the blu-rays, so I also started buying some DVDs. Thankfully I ended up not needing them.

I actually bought these まちカドまぞく volumes/doujins sometime last year, but I never bothered to post them before.

Did you not read the title? :joy:

Love the Kirara magazine though, especially with 星屑テレパス on the cover. I just read volume 5 of that and it’s a really fun series. Personally, I would have bought MAX since it tends to have more Kirara manga I read, especially ご注文はうさぎですか.

Supernatural is always good! Hopefully the dub actors can live up to the amazing job that Jared and Jensen do.

Have you tried reading them yet? I read the first two volumes a while ago, but they are quite dense.

We could start a study group if that’s your jam. The only reason I got Quartet is bc there’s a study group on the WK forums. Will that get me to actually do it? Probably not (especially because they’re quite a ways ahead already), but it’s worth a shot. :joy:

:joy: No. I just saw the cute cover and bought it on instinct. I read the cover afterward and got concerned as to what I just bought. Hoping it wasn’t as bad as it sounded I looked it up online. Turns out it’s worse than it sounds.

Not yet, they are well beyond me at the moment. But I’ve read it in English a couple of times now and I wanted the physical versions in my house ASAP. It’s easily one of my favorites.
Very much looking forward to the day that I can actually read them. Until then, they’re just shelf decorations.

I did start one of the doujins and it was pretty easy to understand, but I got distracted by other manga and haven’t finished it yet.

Sounds like fun.
Could be a good way to keep me actually using the textbook instead of just letting it gather dust on the shelf like all my other textbooks before it.

Hopefully we can get more people. A 2 person study group feels too intimidating tbh.

Well, if you want to try easier Kirara manga in the meantime, I got you covered!

Does it use panels from real published manga, like the old Mangajin books did, or is it more “grammar taught with examples drawn as manga” ?

The latter. Which is less fun. But for me at least it’s easier to digest than a conversation paragraph between 田中さん and スミスさん.

Mmm. I expect that using real panels is a bit of a copyright, royalty and publishing rights nightmare (though I’m sure one of the big publishers like Kadokawa could do it with some of their in-house manga if they really wanted to).

Agree on both counts. :slightly_smiling_face:

Slightly off topic but there is this textbook which uses manga panels but I don’t think it will be the manga you are looking for as it’s a variety of different ones from older manga iirc.

And you’ll find out some of us are still on ch 1 and someone else just joined as well!
