Physical Media Megathread

Mm possible, but nothing comes to mind.

To be fair, I definitely do like my share of trashy stuff. As long as it’s the right™️ kind of trashy. though what exactly differentiates the two isn’t always clear

Got the following from them today:

Hi. Thank you for shopping at CDJapan.

Following the announcement of tariff relaxation, we have temporarily suspended orders as we were not certain of how our packages would be handled. However, as we haven’t seen any packages being affected by the new tariffs, we’ll be resuming shipments starting tomorrow

So about a 3 day delay in total. Not so bad

Almost entirely 吉屋信子. Miraculously I managed to add almost everything here to the site

帯なし plus pretty photos of insides

花物語 manga:

The contents of that essay book:

I’ll probably start with 花物語 and 暁の聖歌. Will be really cool to see the stories illustrated, and I think 暁 is easier, and has bigger font size, than the rest

I’m really curious about that essays book, but that’s gonna be a hard read, I can tell already. Wish it was digital.

Apparently I’m the last 3 replies… So here’s more stuff:

Hope video games are okay for this thread. I’m very excited to dig into this as soon as I’m done with work for the day.

oh fun! I should really dust off my pile of Japanese Switch games…

I’m pretty sure physical media is physical media, which a game definitely counts (and I have seen other games in this thread in the past, iirc…)

I think the only other jp Switch game I have a physical copy of is the Yuru Camp VN. I found that one too difficult back in the day, but i wonder if I could manage it now…

Oh, I didn’t realize ときめき was on switch! :open_mouth:

Yeah, a remake came out just recently! It has both the old pixel art and more recent redrawn art. Interestingly, it defaults to the original graphics.

I am in the habit of visiting used book stores any time I travel, and most have no or an underwhelming Japanese selection but recently I did find two books that interested me:

わたしのグランパ looks like it will be a easy read to burn through sometime. It has large font and only 152 pages - I suspect it’s aimed at a younger audience as well. チョ子 interested me because it’s a short story collection by 宮部みゆき who I mostly know to be incredibly long winded. I’m curious what a short story by her will be like.

Got a new book order in today!

Caught up with キラギラ now~

Bonus magazine and merch

The real reason for my order was the cute D.Gray-man steampunk merch. :3 I also got the latest issue of 小説Chara for the newest Flesh&Blood short story.

I spent too much time trying to rearrange my bookshelves earlier, to see if tiering worked. Takeaway: I mostly don’t like it, but it’s useful if I really needed the space. My biggest issue is that it makes things really hard to access. I shouldn’t need to make a dexterity check just to pull a book off the shelf. Final result:

Anyway, various things I wound up doing:

Inuyasha & Ranma shelf is so much nicer than that looked before, so succes!! The SAO shelf looks pretty good too, tho the one worth Kirito & Yui is blocking the other LNs behind it

Yona & Shirayuki before:

Yona & Shirayuki after:

Minor change, looks a bit nicer

Put it all together, and you get:

Well I guess that’s before I added the rest of the LNs to the SAO shelf

マリみて before - over 1.5 shelves

Attempt 1: this looks nice, but I hated it, cuz hiding the DVD cases loses so much vibrancy

Best in terms of visibility, but highly impractical. I had to use random books at the end, bc I don’t have bookends

I like doing the stacking with LNs on the bottom better, but it still blocks more than I’d like

Otoh my previously pretty bottom shelf

Is now a mess

The one upside is that now I can move all my yuri into a single bookshelf (it was overflowing before)

I’d kind of like to do that, but then I’d have to shift 9 shelves

Top left 3 to right, top right 3 to bottom, bottom right 3 to top… Or I could swap bottom left 3 with top right 3… But I really like the bottom left 3 where they are

It saved me this much space:

That Yurihime cover is my favorite this year

I’m reaaaaally sad about ギャルメイド - it was one of the more enjoyable ongoing series. And a great, not so difficult fantasy read

Rose garden takes place in England iirc

No 帯なし pics, bc we’re in the middle of a heatwave, and that room doesn’t have A/C (the manga are fine afaict)

Got me some new books in I’m pretty excited about!

アニメイト and コミコミスタジオ both had separate unique short story bonus items when you bought F&B 25 from them, so of course I caved to corporate pressure. :money_with_wings: F&B 1 is also there for that reason. I figured if I ended up with an extra F&B volume I’d end up donating anyway, might as well be volume one so a future browser could start off right. :triumph:

Bonus F&B

I finally got the last two F&B acrylic stands I’ve been looking for! :face_holding_back_tears: Vicente on the left and Nigel on the right are two of my favorite characters, and of course they’re the last ones to pop up for secondhand sale. I paid a bit more than I probably should have because of it, but all’s well.

Ooh, now I’m really proud of this lot. In celebration of NO.6[ナンバーシックス]再会#1 【電子書籍特典ショートストーリー付】 | L30?? 's release, a whole bunch of bonus stuff was announced and released. The books on the right are the regular bunko volumes of the first three books of NO. 6 〔ナンバーシックス〕 | L32, but with special full-size obi used as alternate cover arts. (OG covers below.) All of these books are also signed by the author! (Example signature in last picture.) A single seller was selling all of this, so I got really lucky!

I picked up ルーム (角川ホラー文庫 49-9) | L28?? at the used book store today - it’s very hard for me to resist anything with the 角川ホラー文庫 imprint even though it’s hit or miss whether they’re actually horror in my mind. This one says on the back that it’s suspenseful so we’ll see when I get to it I suppose.

The blue book is actually a notebook I bought at the same time and unrelated, but it’s certainly a cute cover. I had already taken this picture so didn’t want to take another one just for the forum

Wanted to get a good mix of beginner stuff recommended here on LearnNatively, and some familiar favorites even if they’re probably well above my reading level. Stretch goals to eventually aspire to!

That order looks like it should come prepackaged as the Natively starter set :joy:

The Yurihime anthology has been great so far, and the manga that came with the Simoun game were also great. The doujins on the other hand… the cooking one was great!!. I’m annoyed at myself for the DVDs, cuz they’re absolutely not what I wanted. They’re not only lesser quality than I had access to, they also don’t have the on-disc extras or liner notes. At least they look cool on my shelf, I guess

Surugaya didn’t have this month’s Yurihime in when I ordered, so hoping I can still find it there or Cdjapan when I next order

Hope people in the U.S. are ready to start paying tariffs on their orders from Japan…

Sadly my next order will be right after this change takes effect.

Ugh. Apparently this will be 15%? Does that mean like 15% of whatever the total price is? 15% of what the goods are, prior to shipping costs? I guess the companies will add in the 15% cost automatically?

Yeah, it’ll add 15% to the cost. Presumably the cost of goods excluding shipping cost. As for how you pay, I’m not sure. From what I’ve heard before and some quick reading, it looks like it can sometimes be paid ahead of time when you order (depending on the website), but when it can’t it’s the courier that pays and they’ll hold your package until you pay them back.

This is so stupid.
