I decided to email them, and ask what’s up. I’ll proceed either way - It’s the last time I’m ordering from them for the foreseeable future. Then one order from Suruga-ya next month, and I’m back to digital That would have been the case either way at this point, just cuz I decided to sign up for more lessons.
Thx for all the math stuff, and confirming that indeed what they wrote doesn’t make much sense.
I’m pretty sure they’ll cancel it for you, if you email them - especially since it’s tariff related and still pending. Good luck, whichever route you go.
Well now I’m curious and have to know what the bill ended up being and how it worked out My money is on the shipping cost increased somehow…
yeah probably though when this started I emailed them a couple of times before they finalized my credit card and got this wishy washy response that never answered my question (which is right in line with Japanese indirectness…but also annoying)
didn’t want to lose all my points so thought well I’ll use them up along with a coupon, so in theory it’s under the tarriff amount and it’s a dvd and book so shouldn’t be tarrifed at all but who knows…
even if it is though… say it’s 25 bucks…still less than the redeemed points…so im like meh…will see what happens in a couple of weeks.
Going forward all digital, I still buy everything on BW and make them available via methods so I can read them with ttsu and mokuro… but I am paying real money for them and sometimes the 10% Japan sales taxes/vat even… (why region lock for purchase but read in app anywhere… i swear sometimes japan and now they require paypal which tacks on extra fees that I cannot avoid with my int fee free cc ) but if that starts to become even more of a hassle or they make it impossible …then screw it all…off to the find zorro and chopper
really? bookwalker.jp - every time I try to check out it never lets me use my US credit card anymore hmm… the option is always greyed out… oh well that’s not a problem for this thread
Under what tariff amount? There is no de minimis anymore. As you said though, those items should be exempt, so you should just have to pay the clearance fee. For Fedex prepaid it was 1300 yen but other shipping options you pay the shipper directly.
I had ordered this as pre orders all pre tarrif…
it’s DHL - so will find out in a couple of weeks how it all is supposed to work and the costs…I’ll share what I find out
good to know but meh… I don’t use Amazon jp anymore unless I absolutely had to… got too many books damaged from lousy packing.
digital works anyway I have my android tablet setup with ttsu and mokuro and can dump things the kindle…so lots of ways to read them
22160円 ($149.97 USD)… Original subtotal was 7716 (~$51.90) - for 29 manga volumes (17 of which are OOP) & 1 manga magazine. Digitally (Amazon) it would have been 21304円
So actually not such a huge difference in this case - about 576円 ($8.56) 856円 ($5.76)
Yes, I do appreciate that on the odd occasion I’ve needed to send them a message I’ve got a helpful reply from somebody who knows what they’re talking about and isn’t just replying with templates from a script. (Though I also got similarly helpful service from Kinokuniya Japan, so perhaps it’s just “avoid the multinational giant corporations”…)
Bottom: ことり文書 | L25 (all three volumes) - I wasn’t sure whether to bother buying this physically since I already bought the first digitally and it’s good quality. But I’m glad I got it now since it’s got a nice-feeling cover.
Last of my orders arrived that were stuck waiting for pre-orders being released. Apologies in advance for the length of this.
No.6 reunion (link is only for the first of 2 since the second one hasn’t uploaded to Natievly yet) set 2 years after the original series. nice hardbacks with gilded writing on the cover of #2. There are illustrations inside too.
Top three are 齢5000年の草食ドラゴン、いわれなき邪竜認定, thought this might be interesting and it has a dragon in it so it was getting added to the collection regardless.
Bottom three from left to right: くもの糸 and other short stories because I have abridged version of the stories or know them in English and wanted to read them in Japanese. 打ち上げ花火、下から見るか?横から見るか? bought this on a whim. デジモンアドベンチャー LAST EVOLUTION 絆 映画ノベライズ みらい文庫版 and this one too. Surprised this is my first Digimon book considering I’ve got most of the UK released games across several different consoles.
Top left - ループ7回目の悪役令嬢は、元敵国で自由気ままな花嫁生活を満喫する , got this to complete the set.
Top right - 水属性の魔法使い 第一部 中央諸国編 books 3 & 4 since I already have books 1 & 2.
mid left - 毒をもって僕らは, ふしぎ駄菓子屋銭天堂 series 2 book 4 since I’m now collecting these. This one came with a trading card, so did book 3 of this series, with book 2 having a cardboard character standee. The Yodomi book came with a sticker sheet.
bottom left - 誰が勇者を殺したか, since I’ve been meaning to add it for a while, and the latest 薬屋のひとりごと, still not watched the anime yet.
bottom right - 穏やか貴族の休暇のすすめ。キャラクター設定資料集 a character design book. Thought it might encourage me to get back to drawing at some point.
mid left, most recent volume of ドラゴンクエスト ダイの大冒険 , 魔法少女ダンデライオン manga as I liked the sound of the characters, 骨ドラゴンのマナ娘liked the look of these covers and the fact there is an additional manga page or two under the covers.
bottom row is ウスズミの果て liked the premise of this, though for someone that isn’t really into gruesome things, I maybe should have looked at images first. The cover under the dust jackets are pretty cool too, a detailed version of the cities/ areas shown.
top left to right
part 5 of 水属性の魔法使い series from above, most recent manga volume of ツレ猫 マルルとハチ, and then 過ぎ去りし王国の城, liked the premise and thought it might be quite a good read.
most of the rest are 凜として弓を引く series. I already ordered this before the book club picked it but it does seem to be a bit above my level. And last but not least, lower right is 猫鳴り which I’m expecting to be an emotional read.
