Have a great time!

Geulbeot Books in Mapo (near world cup stadium) area of Seoul

is a used book store with easily a 1000 or so Japanese books (I spent a looong time in there). So thoroughly recommend!

The standard used book store chain is called Aladin, but I found them quite hit and miss for stocking Japanese.

Unfortunately i really have only bought korean books here.. sorry

교보문고 (kyobo) is a big bookstore I usually frequent and I think they usually have some Japanese books. Aladin (알라딘), as @読み蛙 mentioned, i have definitely found some translated Japanese books at and they tend towards fantasy/young adult for sure. I found Honzuki there (in Korean).

I’m very excited for you! Please bring some raingear though if it’s late june haha

So I guess Aladin is something akin Book-Off in Japan?

Thanks for the tips!

If it happens, it would be around the 8th and for a week-ish, so hopefully not too much rain but I’ll take it in mind!

Yep I think pretty similar, although I think average Book-Off stores tend to be a bit bigger (although Book-off I’d assume is pretty hit and miss for foreign language books)

Those last 2 chars are the same as bunko/文庫 aren’t they?

Interesting that there’s two ㄹ (the semi-silent ones drive me crazy tho :sob: )

Ha! Yes that’s right. In Korean, 문고 means kinda like a bookstore or a place of books though, not a type of book binding

If there’s an ‘L’ sound, it’s almost always going to be a double ‘ㄹ’. If it were ‘알아딘’ or ‘아라딘’ it would sound too much like an ‘r’

So… I may have bought two manga full sets and a one shot…

The question being how do I add the Yu-Gi-Oh Jump Remix editions to my account… I can only find like 6 volumes of it on Amazon Japan since they were mainly sold in convenience stores

Do you have their ISBNs?

Oh thank you so much, I didn’t think of that. Found them

Was in Kinokuniya for the 気になってる人が男じゃなかった | L24 pick up good event. They were out of some of the ones I wanted, but I won’t up getting some books, of course

  • I thought I had these physical, turns out I had them ultra discounted in Kindle form, so I went ahead and got them physical.

  • Grabbed these two anthologies and a Hobonichi planner, where the idea is to track down in a physical form what I do, and see if I can get my life a bit more in order. Glad I found that they had a version that starts in April, otherwise I might have passed or gotten one with wasted space of the first three months of the year.

  • And as I clear books with Vinted for collections I’m not going to finish due to one thing or other, I found out that Spice and Wolf series was completed in English, and went ahead and hunted down the books I was missing.

These turned up on Vinted pretty cheaply (about 16 quid including postage for this lot):

I was intending to pick up a standalone book by 司馬 遼太郎 to see if I liked his stuff rather than a whole eight volume series, but the price was too good to pass up

I love those covers for 竜馬がゆく | L40??; the rainbow effect of how you arranged them is quite nice. Shame that final book’s cover is so close color-wise to the first’s.

Wow that’s a fantastic deal!!

Nice vinted haul!

I’m dreading the time the new duties of EU come into play for my regular JP imports. If they don’t properly declare my haul of books, paying 3EUR extra per book sounds awful.

That’s a nice find!

When buying the whole set is cheaper than the books you are missing because they are out of print for an ongoing series

How many were you missing from that set?

11 onwards, from the 16 you can find it on Amazon, but the middles were out of print.
And the 8.5 volume.

I could get that whole set for 1200 yen. What it hurts always is the shipping.

I’m in a similar position with Hayate no Gotoku, missing the few at the end, but ordering a 52 volume set is going to be expensive AF, so I’m looking for late volume sets to be able to proxy. Individual volumes are available, but the proxy service charges per item, so not ideal either.

That’s a great example of the realities of collecting physical books :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Mildew smell is unfortunately pretty common with older or poorly stored copies.
Your freezer + dryer sheets trick is actually a smart way to deal with it!
Good luck working through your 赤川次郎 collection — sounds like a big but fun challenge :books:
