Note: I’m not exactly the most patient reader, so take this with a grain of salt, but…

10/1 impressions - Well it’s only the first day, but so far, this is extremely dull to me. Yue has like no personality, besides being slow and gullible, and mildly jealous. Kaoru seemed possibly mildly interesting. But the whole “oh look the new, cool/beautiful transfer student” thing is just . The only part of this I’ve found a little bit interesting so far was the pre-day 1 commuting., and the character designs (which I like very much)

Anyway hopefully Day 2 will be better. The choices do sound slightly more interesting. I’m gonna wait for some other readers to catch up and hopefully report back

are we sure this is where the routes split up? I don’t particularly feel like I am on Yue’s route we only met 3 heroines and one of them is not alive anymore

Having a hard time parsing this.
昔からこうなった時点でとりつく島も無くなる
when I plug this part into translators it gives something like “at this point there is no turning back”
Not sure how 昔 gives this meaning? And is 島も無い a set phrase

• こうなった時点で: at this point in time
• とりつく島も無くなる: there’s nowhere left to turn for help / have no one to turn to / be left utterly helpless (set phrase, as you guessed)

It’s probably still technically the common route but we probably already need to make dialogue choice in favour of getting on Yues route? So that’s why it is already split up into threads?

Yes, it’s exactly this. Afaict from looking at the choice maps, there don’t seem to be really clearly differentiated “routes”, so much as different outcomes (I’m not sure though). If you see a clearer way/point where it should break up, lmk I guess. Or feel free to post stuff that seems common in the common thread

Thanks! I think I was too stuck in my initial impression that it was a comment on the dead childhood friends absence (like she was the one who generally diffused these situations) but yeah overthinking it

It might be the sort of thing where once you are in a route there aren’t choices anymore? I don’t really know but I would be surprised if there is no route structure at all. Either way I don’t mind posting in either thread so not a big deal.

Yue actually grew on me. I do enjoy really stupid characters I find them cute despite my better judgement. I also really like her voice, it sounds very natural and cute.
MC is pretty generic and needlessly mean (which is a generic trait for these types of characters tbh…). I did find some of us random made up stories amusing but he really should be nicer to Yue.
Shin is an interesting case. Well, he isn’t that interesting now but he actually is the only character that appears in ALL memories off games, and his appearance changes quite a bit. Apparently he eventually gets a dog that he names after the mc of this game (which is…a choice)
Here he is in one of the latest games, and the only one available in english

Didn’t see enough of other heroines to think anything of them.
I like the little chibis at decision points (and the art in general but I said that already in the nomination).

finished 10/3 yesterday

Met 2 new heroines. Don’t really care for either of them…? I mean, their scenes didn’t show much personality, I guess. It’s hard to care about other heroines scenes when I know I will be reading Yue, and she is the one I spent the most time with anyway. The only heroine left now is Minamo, who some people claim has the best route. So I’m a bit more curious about her.

This chapter was short, had some boring food talk that I skimmed, and Yue was barely in it.
The most interesting thing that happened was (minor spoilers) the MC basically admitting that he can’t see anyone in a romantic light, because he is too stuck on Ayaka. I wonder how long ago her death was, I am not getting a clear feeling on it. I wonder how this will get addressed when he presumably starts a romantic relationship with one of the girls, especially Yue who also was friends with her.

I’ve noticed each scene in this vn is quite short. You get a scene and it lasts 10-15 mins at most and then there is a hardcut to a bit later in the day with a completely different topic. There is a general continuity of course as well as running themes (like every day you get a choice about what to buy which generally follows the same “plotline”) but it feels a bit disjointed overall and not my preference. On the other hand ,that gives a lot of natural stopping points and makes it easier to parse for a learner.

Pretty short day.
I saw Minamo’s chibis on some choices, but not herself. I wonder if because I focused on Yue, she didn’t show up at all?
I liked how much Yue admires her mother. The way the scene was set up I thought she would get annoyed to be mistaken for her.
There were a lot of Shin scenes which I didn’t care for and skimmed.

Minamo time. I assume you always meet her here so I wonder what the prev chibis are about. I assume they are showing what “points” youre getting for routes but…oh well vns some times have really stupid reasoning behind choices. Oh also, I really like the name “Minamo” it sounds cute. I was looking forward to learning how her name is writing but it’s just hiragana. Well, actually more convenient for me since I struggle when I have to read names in choices.

I feel a bit embarassed about this post in hindsight, since the kanji also shows up on my ocr set up. Something wrong on my tablet dictionaries I need to get to.
She’s another airhead. And Tomoya seems to start to flirt with her??? Which feels uncharacteristic so far. Also uncharacteristically helpful. I guess he likes girls with twintails or something.

Is he just amazed she is studying for midterms or is there some joke or innuendo I am missing here again. Or maybe the point is he fogot there were midterms?
Another food buying scene. I really dislike these and I’ll admit to skimming them. As for Koyomi… I don’t like how incompetent she is. I like airheads and clumsy characters generally but, she’s a grown woman failing at basic tasks, I’m not charmed by it. Kind of resenting the guide telling em to go back to get bread again from her, since I doubt it is a relevant choice. But I did it just in case.

Come on Yue, even you know he is a liar. Actually , he lies to you most out of anyone…
I don’t really understand the conversation about the homeroom teachers timing. I understand the “explanation” of Kaoru’s question but not really why it is something unusual/worth asking about. Probably more a culture thing than language in this case.

That sounds familiar

It is a little weird tho. JMdict doesn’t seem to have 吞む and I can’t get it to show up on my phone when I type のむ or どんしゅう or どんさん . If I paste just the kanji in, it will show up, but 吞む is not registered as a word (at least not in Akebi)

Maybe it’s a “nobody can say anything bad about my ~~boy~~friend but me” thing? I’m any case, knowing this makes it super hard to root for them… Cuz why do I wanna root for a couple where the guy mistreats the girl?

You’re kinda making me want to give the game a 2nd try at this point. How does the writing feel compared to day 1? It sounds like the heroines might make it a little less dull at this point?

nope, she just seems like an airhead. Besides that the only noteable thing about her is that she reacted to learning Tomoya’s name as if she knows him (Tomoya showed no such indication.)
Well tbh I did spoil my self by accident that she is Ayaka’s cousin. So that’s probably why he knows him by name. It might also explain why the mc has a soft spot for her like maybe she resembles Ayaka
I imagine you don’t care either way to know, if you have dropped it, but I’m putting it under spoilers just in case.

This is super common in this genre. He is in fact by far not the worst MC I’ve seen in this regard. I think it’s meant to be more like teasing/playful banter than mistreatment but on the other hand Yue is visibly angry about it sometimes. So it feels odd. Most he just tells her ridiculous lies and Yue believes it. It is getting old a bit.

I don’t think the writing is significantly different. How dull I find it depends on whose scene we are following. I enjoy Yue’s scenes because I like her and even though the mc is annoying in them the weird stuff he comes up with can be entertaining. I dislike the older girl, and the others are ok haven’t seen much of them. I enjoy the atmosphere and art, and I’m curious of how the fallout will be in regards to Ayaka. We know she died because of the synopsis and it is obvious in the game but it is carefully danced around and not stated outright. It feels like everyone is avoiding talking about it - but in a way that feels intentional not just “writers forgot”. We’ll see.

10/6 morning

Yue learns some questionable english for her exam. This is’t really followed up on so uh…let’s move on.

Enjoyed the scene with Yue in the train. Tomoya gets offended when Yue tells him his made up stuff is obvious, so he doubles down on it even accidentally promising that if he is lying he will strip down in the middle of the school, for some reason (he does regret this immediately). It felt like a more equal relationship than usual one sided teasing her for being naive.

I’m under the impression gaijin is a somewhat rude term, so surprised the teacher is using it. But then lots of teachers are insensitive and rude. Could also be because its an old game. Or I’m simply wrong about the nuance.
Oh nevermind actually, she does get offended at this. She is not a foreigner but a returnee, but also takes offense at the term itself.

This convo made me immediately more interested in Shion.
Tomoya is reminded of Ayaka because of Shion’s long hair, and dreams of her. This happens now and then. Guy needs to stop sleeping in class.
Then its PE time which I will admit to skimming. At some point he is distracted by a girls voice but we don’t see who it is, though Shin says its some ribbon-girl (I guess Minamo). The actual female classmates are not around for this scene.
Tomoya decided to leave early because of a headache but Yue demands they hunt down a skeleton instead which Tomoya earlier had sworn he saw. She thikns it might have been an optical illusion or such. Goon on her for developing some healthy skepticism. Tomoya goes back to being a bit of a dick in this scene but I guess he is afraid he will have to run around naked in school.
To be fair, Yue is also really immature at times, like now

At this point you ca nagree to come to school at night to check the skeleton rumor (that tomoya made up…) or not. Guide says to not go, but I ignored the guide because the happy-Yue was on the other choice. I guess if I have a problem we’ll see (might also be a difference betwee ngetting good and true end).

I can feel my attention slipping so I’ll stop here for now, even thoguh the day isn’t over.

This is probably true of all the heroines. Generally:

True End = normal, intended story ending, based on the route and writing itself
Good End = special/bonus ending
