The first volume of 新世界より (上) | L39 is also on sale for ¥100. I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve seen it recommended.

Kodansha is having a massive sale on v1-3 on a bunch of great manga right now. I’ve got to dash out the door so I’ll go through it later, but here’s the relevant search query (Rodan from Wanikani’s affiliate link). Sort by series for easier view.

Oh boy… I’m terrified to read this pretty much ever, but of course I’ll buy it at that price. I really loved the anime, but this is a tough one for sure.

Not sure if I should also put this in the BL Book Club thread, but the first volume of きのう何食べた?(1) | L27 is 64% points back on Amazon and きのう何食べた?(2) | L27 and きのう何食べた?(3) | L27 are 89% points back.

Almost everything Kadokawa gets 50% coins back until August 15 and some manga even offer 55% coins back. Combined with the coin back, some manga and light novels are on sale for 99 yen. Worth taking a look.

Lots of horror books in there too. Summer is spooky season in Japan after all :ghost:

There is also a BL label currently having a sale:

I may have bought

solely based on the cover. :face_with_peeking_eye:

You will need to activate a VPN for most BL titles, as they are not available abroad.
Pro Tip: Put the books in your cart, then switch off the VPN. Books in your cart stay there, but now that you are no longer in Japan, you avoid taxes. :see_no_evil:

Me debating if I should just get them all or not. Even though I watched the anime as a kid and had no idea what was going on and remember nothing. Also definitely too hard to read anytime soon. Ooof decisions

“Last one” was in 2020, so I guess it’s one of those hiatus I love to see.

I got them all anyway, for the off-chance the series is finished and I might want to jump in.

FWIW, when I originally read them only light novel volumes 1-11 (up to 涼宮ハルヒの驚愕 (後)) were published, and the end of volume 11 read to me as a stopping place for the series, so I wasn’t really expecting anything after it. Volume 12 is three short stories, not related to each other. In general the series is more “standalone stories featuring the characters” rather than “an ongoing story or plot arc spanning multiple volumes”. (The exception is volumes 9, 10 and 11, which per the Wikipedia summaries go together.) And volume 1 stands on its own as s single light novel, as is common with LNs, so you can certainly read that and then stop if the style doesn’t grab you.

My main issue is that it would leave something in a cliff-hanger. If Volume 11 stops nicely then is “not an issue” if volume 12 never comes.

Thanks for the info!

More to the point, are they good reads? I wonder if kyon introspection will still be interesting to me in 2024.

Volume 12 (the three short stories) came out in 2020. The announced-as-being-worked-on volume 13 will apparently be two related short stories published in magazines back in 2004 and 2006, plus a new short story that will presumably tie things together and fill up the page count to one LN volume’s worth. So that also seems unlikely to be a cliffhanger ending.
