That’s generally the case with temporary levels like these. For this book in particular, no one has actually finished it yet, and thus it has no gradings.

Good to hear that it’s not too weird to read, i tend to write more like a “flow of consciousness”, and my brain likes to mix languages. the whole idea of this log was to sort of force myself to stick to spanish, but i’ll take a more liberal approach maybe and allow english to sneak in. and if french ever gets implemented in natively, then i’ll just let loose

why is everyone telling that man not to do ballet?? first, the family: what is it to them? why do they care so much about the neighbours? (why the neighbours would care in the first place is also a mystery, but even if they did, so?? what is the problem?) is doing ballet so embarrassing? is it because he’s a man, or because he’s older? a mix of both i imagine, but still… let the man be! he’s grown, he’s not bothering anybody, why are they literally yelling at him over it? i don’t get it.
and then the teacher also, why doesn’t he want to teach him? i’m 100% sure they explained it and i didn’t get it, is it because he’s worried he will hurt himself? or because he would need to go at a slower pace and he doesn’t have time to slow down the class?
i am confused as to why this turned into such a big deal, but very happy that he does not seem to care at all. even got a unitard

i only ever watch series / movies with english subtitles, but i am still seeing an improvement in my understanding. i understand more grammar points, more words, which is mainly thanks to my reading. i do take korean classes every week, but i don’t think it has a direct impact on my listening abilities. the things i learn in class help with my reading, my reading helps assimilate concepts and vocab, and that helps me understand the shows. every little thing adds up!

on another note, i started watching Dark the other day, and i was thinking… should i learn german?? it’s a joke, but also it isn’t. i took german for 2 years at uni and remember nothing, and i KNOW that back then i found it incredibly difficult, what with cases, gender, etc, but at the same time, while watching the show i understood a lot more that i thought i would. and that’s when i started thinking: if you compare it to korean, it doesn’t have particles, you can call people by their name, how hard can it be to learn it? so now i’ve deluded myself into thinking i could learn german by myself.

I’m finding myself having to do my daily reading riiiiight when I’m going to go to bed, and remember, oh wait, I haven’t read yet! Which is a change from January, when I used to read early in the day, and then several times during the day. i don’t care much for the story to be honest, since they mainly chat about romantic relationships (at least they did in the first book) and my interest in that topic is non-existent, but the level is comfortable to me, easy to read, and i like how they switch between telling their stories to the present moment, so i’ll give book 2 a go.
listing them out i am realising that there are a lot of books on that list, and that isn’t even accounting for the ones i might find & impulse-buy during the month. oh well, such is life.

i was scrolling on the wanikani forums, as you do, and found the Spring Equinox 24-hour Readathon which i thought was a great idea!! 24 hours to read as much as you can in your target language!
so i’m thinking of doing that in my own little korean corner since wanikani is japanese only - if anyone is interested here, i could set up a thread
it’s in exactly two weeks, march 20th, so here is a little prep:
i like to read in the morning, so i think i can manage a good couple hours, maybe 3 if i’m in the zone. then a big lunch break. and the afternoon is usually slow, maybe 2 hours total. and 1h before bed.
that would be 6 hours, ie a full day!
i’m exciteeeeed.
If the equinox weren’t in the middle of the week (and if I weren’t also trying to figure out how to juggle it in Japanese), it’d be a lot of fun join you but in Spanish. 
you can postpone the equinox and do it during the weekend. just pretend the daylight hours are the same, and boom, equinox 2.0!
i’d be happy to delay the challenge as well, but the weekends are usually busier than weekdays (that’s unemployment for you ) so thursday works perfectly for me.

after thinking about doing it for a while, i decided to actually start studying hanja. i borrowed You First Hanja Guide, from TTMIK, from my korean school and now have 2 weeks to get through it.

a few stats: no suelo mirar el tiempo que tardo en leer, ni cuántas palabras busco en el diccionario etc, pero para este libro me está siendo fácil mirar por lo menos las palabras que no conozco. lo estoy leyendo en ridi, y cada vez que busco una palabra en el diccionario la subrayo, por lo cual luego solo me falta copiar y pegar el texto en un contador de palabras, y sacar el porcentaje de comprensión.

also very interesting to see that 要 / 요 is actually a hanja, as in 필요 and 중요. i never thought of it for some reason, maybe because i’m so used to seeing 요 as a verb ending, i just gloss over it. it makes sense though, since i guess all or most of -하다 words come from hanja.

One thing I love about this series is that part of the vocab is repeated, the initial setting with the shop, and we also get to learn new topic specific vocab for each chapter. That makes me want to start book 4 actually
That’s true, it’s a nice balance! Also there are a lot of onomatopoeia, which I look up but I feel I could just as well skim over them and it wouldn’t affect my overall understanding, so the actual vocab that I’m missing is even smaller.
It’s also encouraging to see so many people continue on reading the series, because it means it’s still interesting a few books in, and worth spending the time reading it.
I’m trying to get my head around this hanja as someone not learning Korean. If I’ve understood correctly the language is usually written in a modern phonetic alphabet, but these hanja were used in times past for writing the language, and still appear in places today?
It seems a lot of effort to have to learn these Chinese characters if they are not part of the modern written language!
