I’m kinda interested to try unlimited… I’ve never done that before. (Unless previous votes in this club were unlimited? I can’t tell)
Otherwise my instinct for 10 items would be 3 votes. The most I’ve seen is 5, but generally in clubs where there’s 12+ items.
To me unlimited makes sense for book clus since we want to find a common ground of somethng most people want to read. I think it’d be better to read something everyone is willing to read rather than something a smaller group of people really want to read. Esp bc we don’t know how many people will actually stick with it either way, so it’s better to start with a big pool.
I assume this isn’t possible here, but for my personal book clubs I run (1 regular book club and 1 vn book club) I use ranked choices for this reason.
Ranked choice is possible, but the way the polls work on discourse is confusing. Not to say they can’t be used, but the few times I’ve seen people use them they almost always end up deleting the poll and going back to regular style voting

Usually one week will suffice with how small our groups are.
When I run polls I mostly make sure the people who nominated all get votes in and then give it some additional time for anyone else who might see the thread and wander in.

Nintendo store made me verify my age, and looking at the vndb reviews it seems to be 75% ecchi humor with poor storyline, and some other elements I very much want to avoid in games. Too bad. Concept seemed cool at a glance

Yes, exactly. There are a few other VNs like this. I think Marco and the galaxy dragon is one of them, which I think you said you tried. Though in Tokyo love live I think you can also display romaji and maybe hiragana versions of the text, which I personally think is rather pointless.
And I’ve read that Clannad and other games from the same developer have a similar system where you can change the language with a single button, which potentially is almost as convenient.
I feel like that’s even better. Your eyes aren’t drawn to much easier to read English all the time, but checking your understanding is always just one keyboard button away.
I think I remember Marco and the Galaxy Dragon using that system.

Yes, Clannad, Planetarian, Grisaia and probably a few more VNs are like that. Press the - (minus) button on Swich to change between languages.
Since there’s no easy way to text hook on Switch, I’m glad that I can easily switch between English and Japanese. But I think I prefer text hooking on a PC.
I imagine a lot of earlier learners would find that useful. I would actually find the hiragana version useful, bc I’m bad at reading “kanji-lite, hiragana-heavy” things. Like I can do it, but it’s gonna take me a lot more patience and effort. That said I probably also wouldn’t bother with it, for the aforementioned reason
Of all the things that might potentially convince me to play Clannad, this is probably the strongest case for it

I don’t understand why more developers don’t do this. Like in modern TypeMoon games you have to do it through the menu - why not just give it a keybinding?

I’m not voting, but I’m probably planning on watching a playthrough and joining the discussion. I’ve dropped out of all of the VN clubs I’ve started so I don’t want to leave the group with a VN I’m not even reading, lol.
I don’t think there are any VNs I absolutely do not want to play, so whatever ppl vote on is fine with me I think.
If you’re planning to participate at least somewhat, why not just vote for everything, since there’s no limit? The poll looks so lonely rn…
