Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!
Spoiler Courtesy
Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.
Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags
Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).
Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:
Example
This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.
The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.
Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!
If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example
For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!
OR
Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Don’t forget to set this thread to Watching in order to stay abreast of discussion!
Interesting set up - cool to have Honoka’s apprehensive inner monologue, and get some more on her backstory. Also cool that we’re getting 2 new characters, who it looks like are mother and daughter? (based on 魔術師の少女 and the 23 year age gap). Can’t help but think of 鋼の錬金術師, when I see 鋼の魔女
Apologies I haven’t got round to working out the break points yet, but I’ll add it in the next day or so.
Edit: added them for chapter 1 - is anyone reading a physical copy? I don’t think my bookwalker page counts are accurate. If anyone is reading physical I can try to find out page numbers.
Will you be reading along with us this week?

Not to make your life harder, but can you also provide the ending lines? There’s a pretty good change percentages won’t be consistent across Bookwalker and Kindle. I can give Kindle percentages if I have the lines
I potentially can, but I’m doing section breaks - so end of this week is up to the end of section 1.3. But I can give an ending line if I break mid-section.
Yeah that’s fine. It looks like Kindle pages match the actual pages (at least through the end of 1.3), so I guess the differing percentages won’t really be a concern after all
So, as always I have difficulties understanding intervals. Does that mean the closed interval where we read 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 and stop at the “4” in the text? Or does that mean the half open interval where we read only 1.1 and 1.2 and stop at the “3”?
If it’s the first the Book Walker percentage is 19% and the audible time is 1:24:10 into the book or 1:14:21 into 第二話.
I actually think it’s the half open interval based on the next week’s reading of the end of chapter 1. Else we’d read 1:14:21 of chapter 1 (confusingly named 第二話) and then only about 15 minutes to finish out the audiobook chapter the next week
So I intended to stop at the 4 (so to the end of section 1.3), but it sounds like the split wasn’t very even. I haven’t reached there yet, but based on page count this week will be longer than next week.
I won’t have much time to check today but I guess just mention whether comments are from that final section or not? I’m on a train this evening so I’ll check then - that’s when I’m planning to start my reading!
Edit: so I looked, and if we don’t break mid section either this week is long or next week is long. So I think I’ll leave it as is. At this rate I’m likely to be behind anyway
I’ll probably just read to the end of chapter 1 by the end of next week. The chapters have a lot of breaks even between the numbered breaks so if I read about 1-2 a day that’s probably about the right pace.
Overall kinda slow start, but it’s getting pretty interesting. A lot more than last book
finished through 1.3
Honoka has clearly never played D&D… Girl, you always check doors for traps or magic
Mirror + clock as portal to other cities is a pretty cool idea. This should be fun
What is 八九式小銃? 8/9 handguns?? 89mm rifle? Some model number?
Lol at mage girl not knowing GPS. Reminds me of Tohsaka Rin
This Yami lady is pretty intense… And I wonder why it’s a problem for her to simply let them go home. What a random proposal/demand with “you’re now my apprentices” - but sounds mutually beneficial? Good luck to them!
Seems like a good plan, and I’ll try to make the break more even next week. I’ll be behind for the upcoming week’s reading but at least I’ve started the book. Will post the weekly post either tonight or at some point tomorrow I hope. I’m attending a Japanese wine festival tomorrow afternoon!
