I feel like this was the first section where the plot started to go in a direction that got me interested. We finally got some hints at 天’s background (and were shown why he just can’t get a day off :sweat_smile:).

But 芽衣, I kinda just can’t with you girl. :joy: Although I feel like it’s pretty in character for her to get tricked by the 邪神, again. I’m starting to see why she was let go from her job at the beginning.

In her defence, the 邪神 this time was using magic rather than simply tricking her, this time around.

The book’s overall message does seem to be somewhat “don’t overthink things, be enthusiastic and follow your emotions and everything will just work out”, which I dunno that I agree with :man_shrugging:

Part of the frustration for me was Mei often feels like a passive who the story just happens to happen to, rather than anything being a result or consequences of her own desires or actions. I wanted to see her have agency for once. I think it would have been more satisfying to have her oppose the 邪神’s magic herself instead of needing to be saved. When 邪神 said “I haven’t met a human this easy to control in a long time,” I thought it was maybe forshadowing the idea that she could oppose if she the mental fortitude.
Or even when the 邪神 said it could not enter the Buddhist Temple without bursting into flames, I thought the spell was going to be null once Mei was inside temple grounds, and could think of a crude plan herself.
Also, I get she was sleep deprived and overworked, but I wanted her to mention the 邪神 to San so badly. Especially when San mentioned the entire 旅館 was completely drunk/hungover that never morning.
