Any spoilers, for the current chapters must be behind spoilers or detail curtains. When we get further in you don’t need to hide details that were revealed in previous chapters.
Always mention where you are in the book when discussing, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting! But please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That can be part of the discussion too and I’m sure some folks would be happy to help.
Even if you don’t read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post in the thread for that reading once you have finished it. I advise not reading ahead in the threads as you may see spoilers.
Well this book continues to be way outside of my expectations
I thought the section this week was really exciting though. I was constantly wanting the audiobook to just read faster so I could find out what was going to happen! (And yeah, I know I can increase the speed, but I can just hardly understand everything at 1x).
Looking forward to where we go next week. Are we going to go through the digestive tract? Who knows?!
So ridiculous that when I look at the cover it looks like another female-led high school story with or without fantasy elements (rolls eyes). But looking carefully now she is holding a gun! Hurray for something different!
Ugh. I feel like the “being trampled by everyone” scene was kind of unnecessary. It wasn’t even really malice, just careless self-preservation and panic. I feel like it didn’t need to happen to our already bullied protagonist.
どうしようもなく怖いのに、もう彼女が笑わないことに安堵する。
Why do I have the feeling that she’ll be upgraded to “zombie bully”?
…yep, and she was.
そうして私は、大きなペンギンに丸呑みにされたのでした。
And thus ends chapter 1.1 of this *checks notes* zombie apocalypse light novel. I love it!
Since the penguin is from her father, the rumored mage… I wonder if it was magical to begin with, or whether our protagonist somehow manifested her witch powers on the spot and somehow magic’ed it into becoming a familiar. Probably the former, especially considering that she was using a magic wand in the prologue if I remember correctly, and she (probably?) doesn’t have one right now.
PS: Audio book continues to be great. For those who don’t have it yet - highly recommended to listen to alongside reading!
PPS, since I’m gonna need this next week: This chapter goes up to 38:44 in the audio book.
Sorry to hear that! There are voice actors that I can’t stand to listen to in other audiobooks (I thank the heavens for being able to pre…hear? them), but luckily this isn’t one of them.
Ha yeah, it’s maybe a first for me. I think it is more of the breathy low voice performance and not simply the actor. It’s as if she also does sexy phone calls as a side job and used that voice for the narration.
