Musings while reading

The first part was nice. We got to meet an adventurer that inspired Nyango (he’s really lucky that he asked a certain question to an adventurer who actually valued brain power above strength!), and we actually saw Nyango improve his Step / Air Walk spell. And we hear that even a rather weak monster species is still too strong for him, so I guess it’ll still be a whole while until he actually becomes an adventurer.

Haha. That’s the first time I’m seeing 一石三鳥 :smiley:

屈折率の違いで薄っすらと銛は見えているが、気付かずに近付いてきた魚のエラの後ろを一突きで仕留めた。

空属性魔法で作った底の丸い容器に水を入れ、レンズにして太陽光で火をおこす。

I like how both of these are beyond “making and using a hardened form that might as well be visible”. For the spear, it being invisible improves the hunting (this must be terribly useful in battle!), and the water-filled lens only works because the hardened air is invisible. It’s also a combination of hardened air and another material (water). I think this is the most complex thing he made so far.

Also… that lens might actually be using modern Japan-knowledge!

魔物を倒すには空属性魔法で作った槍などの武器で近接戦闘を行うしかないが、こちらの攻撃が届く距離は相手の攻撃も届く距離だ。

How about a bow? An actual one, not a magic one.

その上、強度は厚手のベニヤ板程度で、木の棒で殴りつけた程度でも壊れそうだが、相手には見えないという強みがある。

Haha. Pro: It’s invisible!! Con: It doesn’t do its job as a shield.

剣は防げなくても、相手の顔の前に展開すれば接近を防げるだろう。

That sounds more like a barrier than a shield :laughing:

そもそもモリネズミを捕まえるのに、正当な方法とか、インチキな方法とかあるのか？

I mean, I don’t think that’s what Miguel means, but there have been instances of people breeding animals who have a bounty on them in the real world. I think that could qualify as cheating.

Looking at that last part… seems like he’s finally talking to the only adventurer in the village? I’m surprised it took that long and that he didn’t try to talk to that guy earlier. I guess he’ll soon be a step further to his dream.

This part

Yeah, I was slightly concerned for a moment - I wonder if we will have to wait for several chapters/years until Nyango is at least strong enough to go solo adventuring? :sweat_smile: I don’t think I’ll be able to stand a whole book of Miguel & co. trying to bully him!

The end of the chapter was promising indeed - looking forward to how this will develop.

After it was made abundantly clear that cat people are physically and magically weak, and with his magic not even being a combat-focused element, I’m not really that surprised that he cannot set out immediately. He’ll definitely need to power up somehow first.

this part

I liked the first section the best, with the memory of the adventurer who tells him brain is more important than brawn. Wise words!

However…

:smiling_face_with_tear: At this rate the adventure won’t start until the end of the volume!!

But in order to get stronger he will have to overcome some difficulties along the way, which can be called adventures nonetheless. Just guessing, though.
