Any spoilers, for the current chapters must be behind spoilers or detail curtains. When we get further in you don’t need to hide details that were revealed in previous chapters.
Always mention where you are in the book when discussing, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting! But please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That can be part of the discussion too and I’m sure some folks would be happy to help.
Even if you don’t read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post in the thread for that reading once you have finished it. I advise not reading ahead in the threads as you may see spoilers.
When this started with Natsuki’s POV I had a little hope for some character improvement, but then I almost gave up on her completely when she kept quiet. For me the only thing that saves her after this is not when she finally says sorry at the end but when her crush on Wabisuke leading to the fake backstory she created for Kenji was exposed and we finally see her off the pedestal Kenji’s been putting her on.
The characters really aren’t all that likeable in this book my wild conjecture of the week is that Wabisuke is the villain, based just on the fact he laughs like the fake Kenji in Oz.
Yeah, same. Perhaps I missed some of the nuance, but I am quite disappointed about the family so far, I feel like they judged Natsuki and especially Kenji far too harshly. I expected adults to be more level-headed in this situation - to at least self-reflect about why Natsuki felt she had to lie to them in the first place, and not blindly treat Kenji like a criminal without even trying to understand the situation.
And yeah, Wabisuke is definitely an unlikeable character too. The dirty jokes towards Natsuki are super creepy too.
I feel like the author was going for slapstick but the humour isn’t working for me, maybe that’s why the characters feel over the top and annoying? The wacky family with lots of members rarely works for me in fiction when it’s meant to be comedy
Right now the character I like the most is probably the (aunt?) trying to watch (her son?) play baseball on TV. Basically, the person trying to their best to support their family member and to have absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the family’s shenanigans or the internet breaking or any of the plot ><
