What are you reading today?

…“would never use“ is for sure wrong.

Here is an article (23 pages ) about the word https://fukuoka-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2716/files/A0407_0031.pdf. Its author writes that 劇的 developed into an independent word, i.e. is used in a figurative way independent of an actual drama that is spoken about, somewhere between the first and the second edition of a dictionary called 辞苑, about 90 years ago.

So I guess this usage has spread by now and people might even think it’s a word with Japanese origin, especially as it is written with kanji. E.g. I found a person asking on some site how to translate 劇的に into English

Concerning the natural frequency of its use in a non-translated Japanese text, I cannot say anything, though. But it may depend heavily on who writes it and for which group of readers.

It’s not reading but audio/visual but this Udemy course is entirely in Japanese, by a Japanese person, and an introduction to the technology.

It’s for elementary school? :open_mouth: or is that just supposed to mean it’s like the elementary level of kubernetes?

It is not really for kids. I don’t think a lot of kids are interested in increasing the efficiency of deploying distributed software apps on cloud platforms.

Kids that do like it are going places.

I’ve barely gotten any reading done lately, but I started two new “a page or two at a time” books:

四字熟語 in syllabary order. Read the intro pages and first entry. This is fun for some low-effort learning, now that the language is easy for me

I ordered a new rice cooker, and thought maybe it could serve as inspiration to learn some new recipes and vocab. In addition to the recipes, the intro section has stuff about what young kids can eat, what’s a balanced diet, what the different modes mean, tools to use, etc. The text is rather small, even on tablet. I’ll be going through it pretty slowly I’m sure. May try to get a physical cookbook next time I order from Suruga-ya. There’s also this website of of 舞妓さんちのまかないさん recipes (from the manga) to consider. Edit: tho idk how many of those would really work in a rice cooker

Otherwise slowly plodding along with 凜として弓を引く | L27 and eventually everything else I’m reading… if I can just distract myself from the dramas for long enough to actually read … :joy:

There’s a rice cooker manga.. I forget what it’s called, but could look it up if you cared. It’s an actual story and then at the end of the chapter there’s a rice cooker recipe. It’s definitely more of a gimmick than a manga, but it was kinda a fun read.

炊飯器少女コメコ probably. It’s physical only afaict, and doesn’t have a preview of the contents, so don’t think I’ll pick it up

No it was actually a different one….. now I’m gonna go find it..

Ohh cool. Seems fun. Added to wishlist. That reminds me, I haven’t kept up with アオのハコ | L23 in a few months… I should check up on that one of these weekends

I technically started らせん | L36 to finish my bingo but I’m really slow (or more specifically spending most of my free time obsessing over Dispatch, thus dropping completely Japanese related stuff outside work; it’s over now, though, so my schedule may get back to normal soonish)

Finished もしもの世界ルーレット あったら便利? “スペアの体”の使い方 他 | L24, which had some interesting worlds, I - like the lead - wouldn’t want to live in :scream:. The three stories got a four, five, four from me, so the book ended up at four stars.

Then technically started ループ | L36 yesterday, but so far I just read stuff outside of the actual text…and will for sure be slower

I finished シャンピニオンの魔女 2 | L26?? :tada: It’s still…. difficult at my current level so instead of trying to rush through the whole manga, I shall put it back into rotation. We’ll see how I feel about it when I come back to it in a few months. Most of the book was the witches council talking, I guess setting up the plot for the rest of the series, and they kept using fancy language because its the witches council and I guess they have to show off.

Finishing up ニッターズハイ!5 | L20 and 私の拳をうけとめて! 4 | L22 next, then back to my normal manga rotation.

What do you think of this series? I always thought it seemed interesting, but haven’t gotten around to reading it yet

Its cute and I like that they’re both adults with adult-ish problems. Plus not a single “but we’re both girls!” in sight.

Ohhh I didn’t realize/forgot they were both adults - that bumps it up on my “want to read soonish” list
