Finished 転生王女と天才令嬢の魔法革命 S1 | L30 . Overall I think it was an OK adaptation. I like the novels better. The one thing I’ll credit though, I thought the anime did the closing events in the final episode better than the book did. We get to actually see Euphilia negotiating and persuading the nobles, coaxing the magic society, being announced as a 精霊契約者 who’s been adopted into the royal family, and is now in the line of succession for the throne, etc.. The novel basically glazed over that. Otherwise the ending felt a bit rushed, but it turned out that’s cuz it’s like that in the books too. I can’t help but wonder if the author wrote the ending with the anime in mind (転天 is originally a web novel, but this volume was pretty substantially changed apparently, and he also mentions the anime adaptation in the あとがき)
A mix of stuff from the manga that didn’t make it into the anime adaptation. Most of it is pretty trivial, some of it is just fan service, and then the last portion is really important plot history, and characterization for Yotsuba, and also Itsuki that it’s really a shame it wasn’t present in its proper place, originally. It’s a little making me wanna get back to rereading the manga. One thing I like about the Itsuki scenes is that they make it pretty clear that she was never interested in him romantically, in the first place - which I think is pretty cool for a harem
Weeklies Report
アオのハコ S1 | L24 - excellent as ever. Also I know what’s coming and I feel so bad for Hina
Ranma ½ S1 | L25 - was great. 2nd half of the figure skating battle, and they made the whole “Akane can’t figure out that Ryouga is P-chan” trope feel slightly more believable (at least for that one part). I do think I liked this battle a bit better in the original anime, but it’s great in both versions. More importantly: Shampoo showed up! So now she can take up more screen time, and hopefully Ryouga will get less (he’s my 2nd or 3rd most hated character in the story)
魔法使いになれなかった女の子の話 S1 | L25 - 普通, a bit better than normal. It still feels like a show that tried to have a message, but doesn’t really seem to have anything to say (or at least hasn’t tried to say it yet). If I look at the show as “the Kurumi & Yuzu friendship show”, then yay they continued being good friends. Anyway the plot’s finally moving. So that’s nice at least
ダンジョンに出会いを求めるのは間違っているだろうか S5 | L30 - was ok. It looks like that stupidity is finally over. Now we can just go on to a big battle the Freya will obviously lose. I really hope there’s some actual repercussions for her, or else I’ll lose even more respect for the story.
ダンダダン S1 | L28 - well it wasn’t as bad as last week, but it seemed pretty pointless, and now they’re throwing in the 幼馴染 threat… I’m assuming this is the source material’s fault, but still
At least it’s equal opportunity about stupid tropes?
ソードアート・オンライン オルタナティブ ガンゲイル・オンライン II | L29 - Was ok this week. There were some IRL scenes, which were cool - except they didn’t show who the characters actually were (and Llen and the grenade girl sound and look totally different IRL), so I was a bit lost. They dropped in an ALO reference and pointed out that (ironically) that sorta game is more brutal than something like GGO, in a sense. Otherwise they’re doing this 3 episode mini-battle against AI or something.
やり直し令嬢は竜帝陛下を攻略中 S1 | L28 - introduced a competing suitor, who I think was 8 years old, but didn’t behave remotely like one… so I guess that explains why nobody else is shocked at the way Jill behaves?! I really don’t like the inconsistent way the show treats the age thing… like if you’re gonna go for “this is creepy”, then actually commit to it, or stop calling attention to it. I wonder if the novels handle it this poorly… but I also probly don’t want to find out? One thing that was sorta cool was this time it was the male lead acting like the distraught, upset, possessive tsundere who’s had her feelings hurt b/c she jumped to conclusions about cheating/浮気 - which would be great… except for the whole 19 & 10 year old thing… but what else is new
星降る王国のニナ S1 | L28 - I’m so excited for this drama to continue, and really wonder where the author’s gonna take it. I have mixed feelings about Nina though at this point. Like on one hand I really sympathize, on the other hand she’s basically messing with peoples’ hearts. Though realistically I’d probly have at least as much trouble navigating that situation.
