Due to how the episodes are numbered, I thought I was about halfway through パンティ&ストッキングwithガーターベルト S1 | L31 so I was extremely surprised when I finished it this morning. (Now I understand why everyone was so excited to see the show return after all these years. 15 year cliffhanger!)
To simulate the long wait between S1 and S2, I will make myself finish up some anime before I start S2.
I tried out a few things today based on my last post.
Frieren:
Watched the first episode with Japanese subs. It was a fine enough introduction. The animation (especially background art) is beautiful. In terms of difficulty, it was manageable, but TBD whether I can keep up for 27 more episodes.
Cinderella Grey:
Watched the first few minutes, but couldn’t take it seriously and turned it off.
Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty:
Watched the first episode, but not really feeling it. The お嬢様 setting and dialogue is just too much for me. Also, the CG for the performance at the end was sooo bad.
That and how straight it was being played. If the show wants to take that premise seriously (rather than being a comedy) that’s fine, but I couldn’t take it seriously.
The panning was a little annoying, but I’m mostly talking about the character models. They looked so fake, almost like a wax figure.
Not sure I really get it (sounds like you wanted it to be a comedy/more comedic, but it wasn’t?), but this got me to finally watch the first ep, and I liked it well enough to try episode 2 later. It did feel a bit silly here and there… but no more than any other anime. Also Iwaza Shiori is in it - which is always a draw for me
Hmm, I don’t recall that - but it’s the sorta thing that’s usually over my head anyway
Not that I was expecting a comedy, just that I didn’t realize ahead of time how ridiculous the premise would look in execution. Probably just a mood thing and maybe I’ll be into it another time.
I’m the opposite since I always notice. Particularly, I don’t like when 2D and 3D animation and mixed like this because they are usually not good.
Started watching 天空のエスカフローネ S1 | L30 with my friend, and am really enjoying. I love how grounded it all feels, despite being fantasy, and the aft style and voice acting are excellent too. It’s a nice break from how moe everything is these days.
It’s with EN subs, so not logging here - but I’d totally rewatch it with JP subs at some point. From what I can hear of the dialogue it seems a little easier than I’d expect L30 to feel - which hopefully means that my listening and vocab have been gradually improving.
Enjoyed ep 2 of ウマ娘 シンデレラグレイ S1 | L26 well enough. Tho the ending was illegal!! Not in a bad way, just “how could they end it there?!?!” way. Will continue watching
笑顔のたえない職場です。 S1 | L28 - this is alright. Mostly lots of over the top 百合っぽい moments and comedy. Manga industry portrayal seems good, but it’s no しろばこ
永久のユウグレ S1 | L27 - was fine. This week’s “couple counseling of the week” was for a married couple where one cheated on the other, establishing that not everybody is polyamorous in this world. Seemingly it will continue to next week
Non-seasonal:
ウマ娘 シンデレラグレイ S1 | L26 - ep 4 - this show is kinda dumb so far, but endearing, and apparently historical. Thankfully I know nothing about horse racing, so I don’t already know the plot. Also turns out there’s a kansai-ben character, who I guess will be the new rival in the next ep
桜蘭高校ホスト部 S1 | L30 - randomly watched the ep where Lobelia girls kidnap Haruhi. It was fine, kinda dumb but funny. Not sure if I’ll watch more rn.
サマータイムレンダ S1 | L29 4/25 - I’m loving this so far, way more than I expected. 花江夏樹’s intonation is weird, but it fits since the MC was in Tokyo for the last 2 years, and keeps switching dialects
