Next chapter is up!
The new thread is up:
There are only 4 weeks remaining after this week. @Belerith, since (as far as I’m aware) you’re my only reading buddy here, I wanted to ask: would you like me to continue posting threads per the schedule or just go ahead and create the rest of them now, since we’re so close to the end? Wasn’t sure if you’re looking to follow the schedule until the end or just wrap it up early.
Chapter 18’s up:
Woops, sorry for the late reply. I’ve been away from home a lot these past weeks… I’ve been keeping to the schedule and am planning to continue doing so for the rest of the book. If it’s more convenient for you to post the threads now, please do so! I don’t mind. Alternatively I wouldn’t mind if we went for a wrap up post similar to the unscheduled book clubs either.
I’ll just post the threads as we go, then! I’ve gotten a bit behind myself again, so this way I can pretend I’m still on schedule, haha.
Week 19 is here! We’re almost done!
I have a question for our resident 薬屋のひとりごと expert @Naphthalene: I recently (just today) picked up a copy of the English volume one and saw this author’s note:
…It’s been two years now since the trade volumes went on sale, and by popular demand, the story is now being reissued in mass-market paperback format.
These new versions have been much revised from the trade releases, hopefully in ways that will make them even more exciting and suspenseful.
Was there an earlier physical release of 薬屋 with different text?
Acc to Wikipedia:
Novel
Originally, the series was only published by Natsu Hyūga on the user-generated web novel site Shōsetsuka ni Narō in October 2011. The publisher Shufunotomo acquired the series and then published it on their Ray Books imprint as a novel with a single volume on September 26, 2012, illustrated by Megumi Matsuda.[16]
Light novel
In 2014, Shufunotomo began to publish the series again, illustrated by Touko Shino. This time, it was published as a light novel in their Hero Bunko imprint, which is mostly made of acquired Shōsetsuka ni Narō titles.
I was not aware of it, but as @暁のルナ said, it seems to be the case. I don’t know anything about it though. The ebook version is the same as the soft cover.
Edit: the ebooks do not have any あとがき…
Edit2: I checked the blog of the author, and originally the story was supposed to be a single book:

I guess that, if I keep looking at it, I’ll find more info.
Edit 3: found an entry that basically says the same thing as @eefara’s quote
https://mypage.syosetu.com/mypageblog/view/userid/183213/blogkey/967467/
(The next few entries are about it as well)
From what I can piece together, the first version was standalone, but the author kept writing more chapters. After ~2 years, a different company asked about publishing everything as a series (since it seems there was already 2-3 volumes worth of content at that point)
Thanks guys! I bet it’d be pretty interesting to read that initial standalone; I wonder how different it is from the volume one we have now…
Penultimate week!
I’ve posted the final chapter thread about half a week early; apologies for rushing it out @Belerith. I figured it’d be okay since it’s just the two of us.
