Discussion Guidelines
Spoilers should always be hidden using spoiler blur.
When discussing a specific section, please mention where you are in the book, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting, but please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week.
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That’s a welcome part of the discussion too, and other readers will be happy to help.
Will you be reading along when the club starts on August 19?
Yes
No
Maybe
I’ll be reading, but at my own pace

What type of media will you be consuming the book as?
Okay, so schedule talk. Book 1 has 4 chapters and one short omake, totaling 164 pages. Book 2 also has 4 chapters and an omake, and it totals 164 as well, nice and even. (Hah, flipping through that second omake shows some explicit scenes. I may need to do a quick glance through both books to try to note sections where stuff like that occurs for those who would like to skip.)
How do you guys feel about a schedule like this?
Week
Start Date
Chapter #
Notes
1
Aug 19
(上) 1-2
2
Aug 26
(上) 3-4 + omake
3
Sept 2

Explicit scene in both ch. 8 and omake
This is good
I think we should speed up and read over three weeks
I think we should speed up and read one volume per week
I think we should slow down

I’m probably going to do this regardless of poll decision, but I’m curious: would it be helpful to you for me to mark R18 sections in the schedule?
Yes
No

Another question, since this will be a short club:
Do you want a thread per week, or just want to use this one?
I will buy the ebook tonight and take a look before voting on the schedule. 2 chapters a week (~80 pages) seems already like a lot for me, but I guess if the book isn’t text heavy its perfectly doable.
It feels like “medium” amounts of text to me, glancing through. Please do let me know if you’d like to see a slower schedule, one chapter/week or so though.
I definitely have way too many book clubs I’m in, but two chapters a week seems ok to me. Although I should probably get up and grab my volumes so I can check on text density and difficulty of the first few pages.
Re: , I don’t personally care one way or another, but agree that those chapters should get marked so people can skip, or read in appropriate venues
I’m ok with 2 chapters a week, but wouldn’t be opposed to just one My other bookclubs currently are relatively relaxed, so I should have time for 2 chapters (some pages are a little denser, but there are also lots of them with not a lot of text, so it balances out).
That’s a good point; I didn’t think to count “explicit” kissing (as it were), but some may not be comfortable with it. I guess this is going to have to be a community-led decision; it’s easy enough for me to mark specific stuff with these books, since they’re so short/easy to flip through as manga to find the physical action, but that’s not going to be the case with anything down the line. Might be good down the line to establish expectations for stuff in the main BL book club thread in general…
So I guess for the short term, let’s ask everyone (the poll is anonymous):
What level of explicit scene should I take into consideration to mark on the book’s schedule?
Warnings for scenes with open-mouth kissing
Warnings for scenes with over-the-clothing heavy petting
Warnings for scenes showing genitals
Warnings for sex scenes (regardless of any genitalia showing)
Warnings for sex scenes (where genitalia is showing specifically)
Listen, I’m going to need a warning if there’s any hand-holding at all
Some other sexual act/act of violence/occasion of foul language not here (please comment what)

Please note that the results of this poll, whatever ends up being taken into account, are probably just going to apply for this particular club until a more thorough hashing-out can be done in the main thread.
Apologies if I’ve forgotten anything in the poll above. This manga doesn’t appear to contain any scenes of (non-cartoon) violence, so I didn’t really focus on it here.
For the short term I’ll mark for sure, as well as R15 on the schedule (again since these books are so short), but I would like to see some data on who
Yeah I often read in (busy) public transport, so I guess even heavy kissing might be a bit… hmm, too much at times, so I voted for a warning (I don’t think violence is much of an issue though, unless it’d be very gory or something, but I’m not expecting that here lol)
I’m struggling to think of a BL manga that I’ve read that has heavy open mouthed kissing that doesn’t lead to at least non-sexual body parts shown in a way to imply sex, but that might say more about my reading materials than its existence
I can think of at least one where the uke runs away. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen situations where they are interrupted.
In the first example, though, sex still happens in the same chapter, so the point is kinda moot for the present discussion.
Whoops, I completely forgot we started today! Based on our polls, we’ll go with the originally-suggested schedule, and will keep all discussion in this thread. I’ll make sure the schedule marks weeks, as well as something that looks more R15, just to be on the safe side. Might take me just a bit to review both books, so please keep this in mind for chapter 1:
Edit: okay, I’ve done my best to mark stuff. Please let me know if anything needs to change warnings-wise!
If this was real life, I would 100% think this guy was a scammer. Especially after Teo said he pulled Ubuki to a hotel and slept with him when Ubuki was so drunk he couldn’t even remember anything. And then he rifled through his stuff and found his account books? Totally sketchy.
Although I did kind of feel him here when Ubuki admitted he was propping up his failing business with his own savings, which appear to be dwindling…
I really like the art in this manga. My original reason for wish listing it has not been unfulfilled.
Same! Although, I’m having trouble differentiating the cheap stuff one character is supposedly wearing at the start and the expensive stuff… but I’m not complaining.
I was so confused how this was going to turn into a romance.
Rational me is like, this dude is so much trouble. Why did he leave his maitre d’ job? How is that going to translate to tailoring? Is this one night stand now stalking you?
BL reading me is like, yeeeeeeeeees!! Time to smash some more
Also, these boys are hot. Looking up 700 tailoring words a page isn’t even bothering me.
Ah, just finished week one of “why is this probable con man here? Wait, what do you mean drunken one night stand?”
テオ is up to no good, I can smell it a mile away, lol. If 生吹 hadn’t been the one to come up with the subscription plan idea, I’d be really concerned テオ would be trying to pull him into a pyramid scheme or something.
Thank you guys, I’m glad we’re all on the same wavelength, haha. I guess when you need a story to get off the ground fast though, this is one way to do it.
Ugh, the only thing bothering me right now is the cat. @.@ That horrible little doodle is everywhere!
I feel like I’ve seen this trend in other BL manga of characters that look really out of place compared to the rest. I guess it’s part of the author’s quirks? But I do agree it feels so out of place at times with the rest of the art.
Yeah, I feel a bit for Ubuki so far. He lost control after getting drunk, this guy shows up acting really sketchy, and now wants to be paid via, uh, kisses? Removing my rose-coloured BL glasses, I feel offended on Ubuki’s behalf
