Welcome to the book club for the 僕らの食卓 series!
As of this club, there are two books in the series with the possibility of more releasing. We will only be reading the two books shown below.
Spoilers should always be hidden using spoiler blur.
When discussing a specific section, please mention where you are in the book, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting, but please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week.
If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That’s a welcome part of the discussion too, and other readers will be happy to help.
Will you be reading along when the club starts on September 23?

What type of media will you be consuming the book as?
Hi all! We’re taking a one week break in between this and ギンモクセイの仕立て屋, but I wanted to go ahead and set up the thread now. I’ve got both books and will put up a tentative schedule once I’ve flipped through them. I’m assuming there won’t need to be any R15/R18 warnings in these ones, haha, but we’ll see.
I’m not sure myself. It certainly does look like the author decided to continue after the initial volume; I didn’t realize myself until setting up this thread. If people want to only read the first volume, since I don’t know if ending on お代わり would feel unfulfilling, we can do that as well.
I read the first one a couple months ago and it felt like a good standalone. Even though I liked it, I don’t personally feel compelled to read the おかわり unless it happens to go on sale.
I could only find the main book used. I’m not opposed to buying おかわり digitally but it will depend on how much I like the standalone and like @catbus said I’m a lot more inclined to buy the second if it goes on sale.
Assuming that we end up reading both, let’s pick out a schedule. (If we don’t read both, consider these cut in half.) Looking at the page counts, I feel like it’ll be easiest to vote on how many chapters we want to read per week rather than page counts, since the chapters are more or less consistent.
(Note that I’m grouping the bonus manga (which might be digital-only anyway) and the あとがき as part of the final chapter when counting weeks.)
How many chapters/week are you comfortable reading?
What a great start this week~ Our main cast is super cute, and it truly did feel 癒し系 to me without feeling boring. Curious if we’ll learn more about 豊 and his family…
The characters have definitely already grown on me and I’m really liking the story so far. I already want to give 豊 a hug - his backstory just made me sad, and even worse when he meets his older brother randomly and finds out he hasn’t even been invited to the family dinner…
Anyway, 種 is suuuuch a cutie!!
Oh fiddlesticks. It’s not available on book walker outside Japan: I get “本商品は、日本国内からアクセスした場合のみ閲覧できます。” when following the learn natively link.
I never bought any Japanese ebooks on another platform. Seems like it’s on cmoa and ebook Japan. Do they allow you to buy books hassle free and how do you read them (online, their own app, epub)?
Man, I’m surprised you can’t get it through Bookwalker; I didn’t realize they had regional restrictions in place. :\ I’m reading the Kindle version; purchasing from Amazon Japan does require using a VPN for the first couple of purchases, but after that they generally stop checking. I don’t know much about the other ebook platforms, sorry.
The art is really dreamy in this one. I’m really glad I snagged a physical book at some point because it’s one of the books where the paper feels really nice. It’s funny how something like that can add to the mood.
I’m looking forward to seeing where the story with these three goes. Right now I’m like BL? Really? So I imagine we’ll have more development there next week.
Done for this week! I almost forgot to stop and read a few pages of chapter 3 before realizing that whoops too far.
(It doesn’t feel like a spoiler, so I’m leaving it as is)
It truly is! I could feel the pent up anger I had from reading 転生したらスライムだった件 leave my body.
It sounded more like he didn’t read the email from his mother… But it’s possible she didn’t send it to begin with.
種 is the cutest bean and I love him.
You could try Booklive… it’s a sister company of Bookwalker (you even get the Bookwalker logo at the end of some ebooks anyway) so they most likely have the same restrictions, but may not check as carefully? You can try the free preview to make sure too.
Well, 穣 mentioned liking guys and 豊 really really wanted to meet him too. The way he invites him to eat together at the end isn’t even subtle If anything, this is the way BL should be, as far as I am concerned.
