Just :heart::heart::heart:

A few notes I jotted down (page numbers are my counting from chapter starts in the physical book so might be off )

178 豊 eating instant soba alone on new years eve :sob::sob::sob:
201 穣’s face in the corner of the panel when 豊 is realizing that yeah, they are 恋人同士 :joy:
209 all of the futons laid out and 種 in the middle :joy::joy::joy:
Also I don’t know what 穣 is on about, kimchi tomato nabe sounds great (although maybe not with whatever there was around the house thrown in it).

Having read a lot of BL (and shojo/josei and honestly, just being a woman and having dated men) I don’t like that I didn’t even really think of this as something problematic until you brought it up. I’m trying to recalibrate my expectations for media, especially since there’s been an influx of a lot of more healthy relationships in a lot of manga, but BL especially lately.

Yuri seems to get it right more than the other genres imo (which is kinda unsurprising…) but hopefully with more people consuming and writing romance without much caring about the gender makeup of the characters, maybe we can get healthier relationships into all genres. A girl can dream at least

Was putting my book back on the shelf next to おかわり and on the cover おかわり has 種 as a little boy, so probably from the main story. I definitely would love another ending extra story set in the time skip though.

To be fair, the book has really prompted us to think it was going to happen anytime soon. Especially, both of them have expressed interest up to that point (plus we have some extra info about what they think of the other). It’s still not great, technically, but it makes it easier to overlook.

Alrighty, we start おかわり today! Week 4 on the schedule!

Hooray! I’m glad you guys are continuing onto おかわり. I’ll be joining you guys from this point.

Awesome! Glad to have you!

So this word came up early on in chapter one of おかわり; it’s not a spoiler, but I had a general question for the word 恋人, one that comes to mind each time I see it: does using that word imply that the people involved in the relationship have had/are having sex?

I feel like I’ve seen it used in manga for rather young people who there doesn’t seem to be any implication that they are having sex. But I will also defer to the more Japanese literate in this thread. :slightly_smiling_face:

Are you asking because it sounds kind of seems similar to “lovers”? I think I explicitly learned at one point that it has a broader meaning (I’m not a native speaker, but “lover” can sound a bit negative, like “mistress”, right?). The JP-EN dict giver “lover, sweetheart, girlfriend, boyfriend”.

So it can be used for one-sided love, though less common. Which means it does not imply having sex but suggests a relationship. And 愛人 (looks similar) seems to be closer to lover or mistress.

We are doing two chapters, right? I’m only reading one for today, though. And I don’t think there is any reason one has to both at once.

okawari Chapter 1

The whole manga reminds me of sangtsu no lion. But the color pages especially. Cute drawings, water color, food. This could be almost be an illustration from Chica Umino. And the Ueda and Kawamoto families are quite similar.

I tend to skip over those hiragana writings outside of speech bubbles. Had I done so here, I would have missed that Tane advanced from the rabbit group to the giraf group!

痛風 was one of those words where I had to look up the engilsh word, too.

There was a wordplay with Rolex and Tane → Tanex I had to think about for a while. I was wondering if Rolex was somehow named after a Roland or similar, but no, It’s a total random fabrication without any meaning behind it.

Then mochi ga fukuranderiru was a wordplay with yakimochi. I didn’t realize yakimochi is actually written 焼きもち. I always assumed it meant something like 嫌気持ち or 焼気持ち.

We’re actually reading three: chapters 1, 2, and 3. And nope, you don’t have to read them all on the same day! Feel free to just post your thoughts as you start and stop, whatever flow makes sense to you. Just make sure you’ve marked where in the story any spoilers you discuss happen, like you did in your post already.

okawari Chapter 2

I don’t really have much to say here. Still pretty cute, I guess. Is it my imagination or did the author draw Yukata cuter in okawari? Or is it just that he is smiling all the time?

Oh. I guess I thought the notion of a glasses tray a bit odd. Just put them on the night stand. A tray won’t offer any protection.

Normally I try and get through the readings quickly to discuss things with people but I can’t with this manga. I just want to savor it forever and ever.

ch 1 おかわり

Somehow 穣 being jealous of 種 and then admitting (to 豊 and himself it seems :joy:) was adorable to me.

I missed that! I was like “Rolex and … I guess some brand I don’t know :woman_shrugging:t4:

I also want 豊 to know what he made me want miso so badly that now I’m making some for dinner :joy:

Hard relate on that.

I spent days just looking at the cover and pushing back reading it :joy:

But I did start and

P16 ebook: 種, you are the most precious bean and I love you but, come on, leave some space to those two.

P20 ebook: okay, it’s not the point, but I love the ゆかたのだいじばこ.

P 32/33 ebook: that must be really good soup.

Chapter 1

It’s the first chapter and Tane is already maxing out on cuteness. I love that he was so excited that he ended up spoiling the surprise.

In the same vein, Yutaka running outside with his freshly cooked soup just to share with the others was great.

So far, I’m happy that the vibe is more or less the same as the original manga.

Finished week 4. As much as I’m loving the book, I wish the text in the Kindle version was a bit darker/thicker. My poor eyes. :frowning:

Man, ended with a bit of drama this time. :eyes: I can’t help but wonder if the situation with what’s-his-face was a friends with benefits situation? Since this manga 's been so good so far I’m hoping for lots of good communication on their part.

That was really cute! I giggled when I realized it, haha.

Late to the party, but I just started the Korean version and this is just my style.

I’ll have to make a “BL family” list, I love these kind of warm and fuzzy stories.

Somewhat legit question (ch2, p47~ ebook): why is 豊 wearing his tie when relaxing at home? My image is that you would remove it as soon as you get home. Plus, it might get dirty/smelly from cooking…

Do I just need to read one more page to get the answer?
Edit: I did not get the answer.

Well my question is now

why did he wait until they were on the bed to change clothes? He’s wearing his shirt/tie up through when they’re thanking 種 for bringing them together, and then he’s on the bed in different clothes.

I mean, I know this is new to him, but it seems like a lot of extra effort to get changed to just take your clothes right off :joy:

I assumed they took a shower offscreen and that he is in his pajamas
