Alright, I just went with a very basic “gender bending manga” for the title. I feel like it oversimplifies the list a bit, but whatever.
And of course 3/4 are on my wishlist/read already ![]()
Not sure what your goal is with the list, but as a viewer it would be nice to have a sentence or two about them. Also “various” is a little too vague to be helpful, imo.
Same as my 4-koma list, it’s mostly just a “check these out if you like the genre” list.
I’m not usually one to give plot summaries. Unlike the 4-koma list, there’s no few word theme I can mention for these. It’s the same when I write reviews. My view is that there’s already a plot summary on the book page, so giving my own is redundant.
I can expand on that. For the series I’m reading now I’m a little reluctant to over-specify because a big part of the manga is exploring how you view yourself. So I think it’s better to let the characters define themselves. I’ll think on it.
To grab from your other post: “I liked the characters and how each of them had a different reason for working at the café” - is both not a plot summary, and something that would pique my interest. I agree plot summaries on lists can be/often are redundant
For me, this list feels a bit “ok, I could just click the tags”. It’s your list tho, so feel free to ignore.
Gotcha, I can see why you went with Various then. Also not to harp on my previous point, but “explores how you view yourself” is another example of “piques my interest, not a plot summary”
Transgender or crossdressing (it’s ambiguous and I never finished the series to see which it was)
I don’t know if it counts as spoiler, but it’s (behind spoiler just in case) crossdressing. That conclusion felt quite disappointing too.
That was the impression I got, thanks for confirming. Honestly, I may just remove it from the list because I don’t think it’s that good.
That makes me kinda glad I dropped the anime. I like crossdressing stuff at times (depending how it’s done), but would probably have been disappointed that that’s the direction it went in
Yeah. In this specific instance, the plot didn’t even really make sense. (Spoiling everything; read at your own perils) Midway through, the main character tried to get back to cis het, has a break down because you can’t force who you are… goes back to “crossdressing” for a little bit, but suddenly decide that nah, cis het it is (without issue this time, somehow). (Ex at that point) boyfriend is left in the dust [edit: okay, that’s a bit harsh, they had a rough patch but did go back to friends; I’m unconvinced, but at least it was dealt with] and the girl who never felt anything for a guy but was in love with girl-mode MC (and rejected “him” during the first cis het attempt) is now perfectly fine with dating “him”. Nothing makes sense.
I can’t fully judge without seeing it, but sounds like I’m very fine having skipped that. Guess I’ll cross that off the list for good. Thx
I read the spoilers because I don’t ever plan to finish the series. I’m not surprised by any of that. I’m just going to remove it from the list since I want the list to be manga I recommend, not just manga that exist in this space.
Well now it’s gone and I can’t see what series it was to avoid it ![]()
先輩はおとこのこ, the manga. Iirc, the anime had an open end, not the forced one of the manga, so there was/is no problem to watch it, imho.
Shame the anime was also just boring. I watched a few episodes and gave up.
Oh I watched the anime and quite liked it. I read some of the comic on LINE manga, but never went past the show. Now I’m wondering if I should spoil myself…
There were a few things in the show that seemed a tiny bit off to me, so people being disappointed with the end doesn’t totally surprise me…
I like it.
I also didn’t like the “intentionally warped” animation that appeared sometimes. That’s pulled directly from the manga and while I didn’t care for it in the manga, it felt totally out of place in the anime.
Anyway, glad you liked it. I know it’s generally well regarded.
While that also wasn’t my favorite, it feels like it’s in the tradition of SD characters for reactions/comedy, which I am very used to, so it also didn’t bother me. And like you said, it was in the manga so it didn’t feel like it was overused.
Maybe something to add to your list; at least it seems you didn’t hate it: まどかのひみつ
I liked the anime too. Although I do remember getting to the end and being like “That was it…?”
(And shortly after I finished the show, someone here read the manga and was complaining about how it ended, so I never read it.
)
That would be me, still complaining about it ![]()
