thanks again for hosting 暁のルナ! This challenge is very helpful to keep up with self-imposed listening.

this month the goal isn’t to listen everyday, but to track my listening and get to 10 hours.

Starting off the month with episodes 4-5 of コタローは1人暮らし S1 | L27. Surprisingly good show so far; I suppose the character design threw me off the most when starting, but it’s extremely touching and has some good character dynamics.

Day 1: Starting off strong with 2 episodes of 이번 생도 잘 부탁해 S1 | L25??, so 2h total.
Anything that steers away from standard Korean is around 5% comprehension, standard Korean itself… maybe 35% with subtitles, 50% with subtitles and pausing to read, and I guess 80% with subtitles, with pausing, and with word translation. Sentence translation brings all of that to 100% of course, but let’s pretend I don’t use that (one day I won’t, it’s a “fake it till you make it” situation).

Little Late, but I’ll be joining again with a bit of a special goal. Last month, I let Visual stuff like Movies and Anime take over my study, so this month I am going to balance it out.

As a result, I am setting a goal of 45 hours, half that of last month, but it is only counting audiobooks and podcasts. I don’t actually know if I will do any Audiobooks, but hey, if they’re easy enough, I might.

Total Time in May: 20h 18m

For the purposes of this tracking, a Youtube Video is a podcast if the only visual element is the person talking into a mic and maybe occasionally holding up an item.

Idk that I’ll bother logging, but I listened to some of the speaking portions of トゲナシトゲアリ 2nd Anniversary Live (which involved 8 different ppl speaking), and also an オノマップ video, and understood everything easily

Also played a good portion of つい・ゆり ~おかあさんにはナイショだよ with headphones off, but was able to hear everything fine. And same for listening to 声優ラジオのウラオモテ #02 夕陽とやすみは諦めきれない? | L28 - which I’m doing without text (I’ve already seen the anime)

I was in Book-Off earlier this week, and did hear someone talking in Japanese briefly for a bit, and it was a bit hard to understand. Interesting the difference btwn hearing in random, in real life vs listening or talking to someone online.

Also found this very relatable video (which I sped up a bit):

Not sure what level you’re looking for, but audiobooks go down to L18, so you should be able to find something to listen to. I’ll plug my audiobook list again; as on the tin, it’s only kinda sorted. It’s been a while since I sorted the newer graded books into the rest of the list. Maybe I’ll do that this weekend.

Getting a late start because I’ve been obsessively reading incredibly trashy Light Novels all day, all week. I don’t even want to share them in the reading thread level of trashy.

2 Episodes of Nihongo Con Teppei, 138 and 139
3 Episodes of Yuyuの日本語ポッドキャスト, just the last 3 because I’m now caught up. I use this for shadowing though.
1 Episode of ゆる言語学ラジオ. I’m finding that I can understand this better than before, but I need to start with it. By the end, my attention was wandering pretty hard and I’ll have to re listen to it.

2:24 of Podcasts today. I won’t do that much every day, my attention wanders too much. But I need to make up for the lost 3 days at the start of the month a bit.

Lmao, I love hearing about trashy light novels. The joy of language learning is you can be neck deep in a dumpster fire and still call it studying.

Started this month off with a bang catching up with my shows and watching too much so much anime. Up to 5.3 hours for the month, so far, so probably on pace for my total last month.

I also technically finished グッバイ宣言 | L25 this month (I listened to the last chapter on the 1st) and started 夜が明けたら、いちばんに君に会いにいく | L25 for my listening-only audiobook. I’m annoyed with グッバイ宣言 because it was pretty boring, but ended in a way that I’m like “wait, what would the sequel for that book even be?” and now I’m considering starting the next one (or maybe just reading the publishing blurb :innocent:). 夜が明けた君 (we’re gonna go with that for its nickname :joy:) is annoying because it’s overwhelming how much 責任 the main character is taking on and it’s stressing me out, lol. Maybe it’s time to plow through a few more 四つ子 audiobooks next for a change :joy:

Interesting that’s also on my wishlist (tho I have no idea why), but I missed that it has an audiobook

I forgot these had audiobooks. They’re also on my wishlist. Maybe after I finish the 声優ラジオ one I’m listening to

I think that the update that Natively does doesn’t (always?) pick up when new audiobooks are released. I honestly find a lot through either suggested or new books on Audible that I recognize covers for and add them manually.

They are quite good for kids books, but I did 4 in a row of them and needed a break. I do plan on getting back to them at some point (maybe next :woman_shrugging:t4:).

On Sunday I started with the listening challenge while taking a walk through the woods. I listened to SatoriReader, so audiobooks. It is a new story for me and I really need to stay focused to be able to follow the story. When my mind wandered off sometimes I recognized I need some more time to come back to understanding what it is talked about

The most frustrating part of listening to things :joy:

Back to being super motivated with Japanese. The problem is that motivation is pretty mucb exclusively on my SRS/Writing and Reading categories

But today I sat down and listening to Nihongo Con Teppei for several hours. I will hit my 45 hour goal, its not that high. I just might have to spend like 16 hours with it on the final weekend in May!

Totally! And because my mind likes to wander off sometimes like “Oh, that tree is huge! Sad that the other trees around are not as big so it might be a little lonely there” or “woah, the sun looks great. That reminds me of …” or “it is getting a bit dark. Sure that it is a good idea to take a walk in the woods? I hope the animals stay far away from the walking path” :joy:

Today I also got on a walk and listened to a new podcast I stumbled across. It was easier to come back this time and understand the context. Either I got faster than last time or the way of narratation forbids some seconds of not listening

The podcast “Japanese with K” I found seems kind of interesting. He speaks relatively slow but talks about history and his everyday life. I listened e.g. to an episode where it was about Mongol invasion of Japan (spotify link). He is located in Kyuushuu, learns Korean and has lived in Australia a couple of months before.
