Ahhh, now my brain is going “I didn’t realize CCS is only 12 Vols”… I’m halfway btwn “this would be a nice easy read” (I’ve seen the anime already) and “there’s some stuff in there I really don’t wanna read”
I think vol 1 is ok as that goes tho… So maybe I’ll read it soon

ah, ok. I thought they were free to keep as it shows 0 Yen, but yeah, when you put it in the card it says it’s time-limited. 
well… 30 vols in 6 days… 5 vols per day… easy. just don’t sleep.

Yeah I think Bookwalker is a little sly about this. I’ve “brought” books there for ¥0 that I thought were to keep but then were limited in my library.

Yes, bookwalker has some sort of system where the books add to your library, but once the time period expires they vamoose. But then they also occasionally have straight up free-to-adds… I think there’s a thread over on Wanikani that explained the differences…

To anyone else planning to read in that time frame, I wouldn’t worry too much about finishing them all. The same volumes were free to read back in May, so I reckon it’ll probably keep happening semi regularly.
Last time I read until volume 18 (thanks, natively, for keeping my records haha), so I’ll simply quickly skim the last chapter for context and continue from 19.

Most literature on Bookwalker (published until December 14, 2023) is getting a 50% coin back until January 18. No minimum amount spent, for once.

Oh, I figured it out, it’s a self published series. In the info on Bookwalker, the publisher is the same as the author.
That also explains how a derivative series (二次創作) could be published. I would assume that the copyright owners would not look too kindly on that.
That being said, the whole series is available on なろう and some other novel self publishing sites.

The Touhou Project has an enormous range of derivative works, and since the creator of the original games published them as a doujin project himself the guidelines he sets for them are pretty lenient. They pretty much amount to “if it’s doujinshi and it’s not illegal and it’s not ripping off data from the games then it’s OK”. There are distribution restrictions – places where doujinshi are customarily sold are OK but wider commercial channels are not, which is almost certainly why this is on Bookwalker and not on Amazon etc. (The rules explicitly list Bookwalker as OK.)

Well, as expected, the guidelines you posted mentioned that legal entities are not allowed to use that property, which was my guess as to why it was self published.
(So it’s less “would not look too kindly” and more “would sue your ass”)
