Yeah I had Audible JP till a few months ago, never had an issue there… Weird how inconsistent it seems to be for people here

Ugggh, I said I wasn’t gonna buy anything this month :sob: It’s ok tho, I know they’ll do it again next month

Trying to decide whether to get ハンチバック now or leave it for whenever the price drops. It gets 50% coins back till March 14, so this ends up being a normal book price, but on the other hand, it’s only 65 pages! But it’s also an Akutagawa prize winner. And I’ll probably like it.

By the way, nearly everything by this publisher (文藝春秋) gets 50% coins back on Bookwalker, so it’s worth taking a look.

I was having the same problem with audible asking for a new card. I signed up to Revolut today for a virtual card and tried again. So I entered the new card details on amazon when asked, selected my home address but then it said I can’t use that card, so I went back and chose the japanese address I have on account, and now it lets me start a free trial.

I’m going to wait a bit though, the trial is only one month at the moment, and I’m sure I’ve seen them do 2 or 3 months free or for 99 yen or something.

Not sure if this helps anyone, but if it does :grinning:

What other book(s) will you get with the coin back, and will the total average price be worth it? Also what’s the likelihood it will go on sale within a reasonable with time period? If you’d bought it now, will you read it soon? That’s how I usually answer this sorta question

Re: but it’s only 65 pgs - I’d rather pay more for a really excellent 65 pgs book than a mediocre 300 pg book. If it’s something that will make my eyes light up, then that’s the most important consideration to me

 All good advice. Although looking at my 35-book-high tsundoku, I may not be very good at following it. Whether I buy a book or not will ultimately always be an impulsive decision based on more or less nothing. Same for whether I read it now or in two years, I’m afraid. No way to know beforehand. :eyes: :books:

Definitely agree on number of pages being less important than quality of book, no argument there. It’s just that 65 (well, 96 according to Natively) pages is basically a short story

Oooh, how do you keep it so low? :open_mouth:

Just roll a pair of dice, or flip a coin then, I guess.

I get what you mean re: basically a short story… I haven’t actually tried reading any JP short stories. Not sure why

Low? :joy: It’s basically a year’s worth of reading for me, at least going by my current reading speed. I guess it helps that none of it is manga or part of a series?

I’ve got 176 on my Owned (but unread) list on here. 46 LNs, and the rest are manga :joy: If I collapse series, it’s 114. A lot of free/cheap Bookwalker stuff, some of which I might not ever read, but also a lot of things I do/did intend to read.

I’m getting more discerning about purchases now that I’m buying physical stuff… But still

The physical version is 93 pages, if that maybe makes it feel more worth it  I haven’t read it yet but will definitely do sometime this year, so can’t give out a definite recommendation. I guess it’s nice to have when you want something for in between books? I read a few pages and it seemed pretty approachable in it’s language and it’s short and the author and their perspective seems pretty unique in Japanese literature, so I bet it will be a very good read. If you feel like you want something like that soon I would go for it now
