Pokedora has a 20% discount coupon until 31/01 if anyone is interested in BLCDs
Oh, I’ve never heard of this site. What’s the details on them? Do they accept foreign credit cards easily? Are they DRM-free?
CCs without any issues (not sure if there are specific limitations).
DRM yes and you have to use an app (annoying but I haven’t found a better way yet, physical importing is just too expensive)
Thanks! This’ll be a good resource to keep an eye on…
雨上がり、君が映す空はきっと美しい | L25 is on sale at Amazon and Bookwalker for ¥391 for anyone looking for a lower level (light?) novel to read.
no kobo sale, crying
audiobook.jp is having an “up to 50% off” sale on a selection of titles; a few on my wishlist were marked off, so others may have good luck finding stuff that interests them.
I think I’m going to pick up 月光ゲーム―Yの悲劇'88 | L36 from @cat’s glowing recommendation; I believe audiobooks two and three are also on sale if you’re interested, cat.
Not directly related to the topic, but since there are many Kindle users here I thought I’d share a warning. It looks like the ability to download .azw3 files from Amazon.co.jp is going to be shut down in 11 days.
I for one was using this feature to create backups, converting to ePub for wider device support, using with https://reader.ttsu.app/ for fast word lookup &tc. I guess I’ll have to shift to another storefront that supports eReaders, perhaps Kobo. I’ll be taking my Kindle library with me.
Do you know a fast way to covert to EPUB?
For my manga I can use an older PC installer and convert to pdf via calibur through some hoops - hoping that doesn’t go away yet, but starting some mass backups in case it does
You can bulk convert in Caliber… not sure if that’s what you were looking for. It takes a while to convert but only a few clicks to get it started.
I think they have this campaign almost every week running from Saturday to Thursday.
I assume they exclude Fridays just so that they can speak of a campaign, as it is not continually free, and maybe a little so that they can get home punctually for the weekend .
I didn’t know they had them that often, I used this one on Thursday to order another recommended Light novel series.
There’s a publisher sale for Ribbon Mascot Comics on right now at BW and Amazon (didn’t check other storefronts). Notably all of ちびまる子ちゃん | L27 is on sale for ¥77 each. The first 4+ books of other classic RMC manga are also on sale for ¥77 like ママレード・ボーイ | L22 (@暁のルナ), ときめきトゥナイト | L24, 赤ずきんチャチャ | L18 and others that I’m blanking on atm.
Interesting level; I watched the first 50 episodes of the series quite early in my watching career and some current ones and would have thought that the manga is easier.
I grabbed the whole series and plan to take a look at what the difficulty is from, but yeah, I was also pretty surprised since I imagine the show is maybe L25 tops.
Edit: I was correct ちびまる子ちゃん | L24
Thx! The first 2 vols are even free to read until 2/28! (I bought them anyway tho, cuz who knows when I’ll get to them)
Ribon Magazine - Manga Magazine - MyAnimeList.net lists all their series. I didn’t see anything else I was immediately interested in (thankfully), except:
Mm which is not on sale, but it’s by the same author as 青い花 | L27 , おとなになっても | L27 and 放浪息子 | L25
This would only affect users who are actually using a physical Kindle device though, correct? If I’m just downloading them from the kindle app and then using epuber ultimate to convert them, then it should be fine, right?
Sorry for derailing the thread a little, we should probably create a new one for refugees looking for a new service now.

In the past I had to attach a physical Kindle device to an Amazon account to be able to even download .azw3 files from Amazon directly. This is the part that will now fully go away.
The rest is speculation at this point, but here’s how I see how this will play out.
I don’t know exactly how or in what format you are currently copying the files from the Kindle app, but it certainly looks like Amazon is going to go all-in on not allowing direct access to files in their own ecosystem. The old way of stripping DRM involved installing an outdated version of Kindle for PC or Mac that needed and used .azw3 files; the endpoints those apps use for downloading this old format of the files are very likely going to be shut down now without any official need for them anymore.
I haven’t used Epubor myself (not free software), so I’m not sure if it has some proprietary way of unlocking KFX DRM. It seems pretty clear that Amazon will only serve KFX from now on, and only via their own ecosystem. I think they will fade away the notion of files and just talk about in-app “data” going forward.
Anyway, this is yet another great reminder that with Amazon you’re renting the content, not buying it. They’ve added a bold warning right by the buy button, reminding that stripping DRM is strictly against the terms of use.
My 975 books from amazon.com & amazon.co.jp are now converted to ePub, which will continue to work with a variety of readers and apps going forward. I’m going to jailbreak my Kindle Scribe and install https://koreader.rocks/ for being able to read ePubs directly on Kindle hardware.
I’m happy that Amazon have given us the heads up – I half expected them to just remove the feature quietly.

Epuber just pulls the files directly from where kindle stores them once you download them in the kindle app. Occasionally, if the kindle app is updated too far some files won’t be pulled correctly.
I wonder how the kindle app is going to change. They’d have to drop the whole downloading thing and move to a fully online e-reader type of situation.
I’ll be backing up all of my books too. I’d say I’ll move over to another service entirely, but I really probably need to stop buying books for a while anyway.
