Discussion ground rules

  • Any spoilers, for the current chapters must be behind spoilers or detail curtains. When we get further in you don’t need to hide details that were revealed in previous chapters.
  • Always mention where you are in the book when discussing, ideally by chapter so people reading different versions have a clear point of reference.
  • Feel free to read ahead if it’s exciting! But please refrain from spoiling ahead of the appropriate week
  • If you have a question about grammar, vocab, cultural things, etc - ask! That can be part of the discussion too and I’m sure some folks would be happy to help.
  • Even if you don’t read the chapter(s) in time, you are still encouraged to post in the thread for that reading once you have finished it. I advise not reading ahead in the threads as you may see spoilers.
Are you joining us for Week 15?
  • I’m reading along
  • I’m reading along, but at my own pace
  • I’m planning to catch up later
  • I’m just following the discussion

Sry the thread was up a bit late this time around. Feel free to @ me in the main thread, if I do that in the future!

I wish I had written something about the ending because I barely remember it now… someone please share their interpretation of the ending to jog my memory when you get there!

I missed the final line, had to go back and make sure I don’t spoiler anyone

I liked what she had to say to 桐生くん, and it’s a nice culmination of the things she’s learned from 南さん and アバズレさん. Still very much wondering what role おばあちゃん still has to play in all of this.

Btw, did anyone else think that the grammar was a bit harder than usual this week? Lots of internal dialogue and long sentences. I’m also reading Another, which is an L32 book according to the site, and I find that that one’s actually easier to follow grammar-wise (though the vocabulary is obviously at a mugh higher level given that it’s narrated by a 15yo boy).

I really liked this chapter, but need to see how the rest of the scene resolves.

I’m really happy with my progress with this book, it feels around three or four weeks ago I was really able to start just reading through segments at a pretty regular reading pace with only a few lookups here and there. Part of that is I think the vocab is fairly limited and (relatively) repetitive but it still manages to have a lot of weight despite that, even though Nanoka’s sentence structures (and general thoughts) are, well, a bit odd. That said I still need a lot more stamina to get through reading sessions.

Not grammar specifically, but a lot of thinking and reacting verbs that felt harder than normal. I definitely feel way more comfortable with Nanoka’s thoughts than I did when we started the book (and honestly, I’ve grown a greater tolerance for mostly understanding what’s being said and pushing through instead of stopping the audiobook to look up words), but I do feel like today’s reading was a bit harder than normal.

I really wanted to read ahead and find out what was going to happen, but I feel like if I did I’d just blow through the end of the book this week and I don’t want to yet.

@hotdogsuplex sry I missed your tag before. Fixed!

Btw, I had accidentally put the percentage as 83% (which is next week’s percent), when it should have been 78% - sry if that confused anyone

A minute in, I was imagining what would happen if Nanoka’s conversation with Abazure-san caused her to actually become a truant, making her future worse rather than improving it :joy: I did not expect to be her takeaway LOL.

What a cliffhanger with Kiryuu-kun opening the door right at the end of this section!
