I’m a little bit late to reading this part, since I wanted to finish a few books last week… but the lack of comments here specifically does not bode well for the plot (not much happened last week either, so I was hoping it would pick up this time)
I kind of wish Holmes hadn’t told 金林 about the expensive teapot he had in his inventory. He was about to scam someone
part 4
Haha, that part made me laugh out loud.
I don’t really get why he says his girlfriend was “stolen” from him. It really just sounds like she was cheating, or at best fell out of love with him. I don’t see what the guy did wrong to deserve that description But Holmes is obviously not entirely objective here.
Question
When Holmes has his monologue in part 4, he mentions that he doesn’t want to bring shame to the name “Kiyotaka” - to which Aoi thinks:
Well, we have no info about that guy, so it’s possible ホームズ met him and that it’s an accurate description of that guy’s personality… but I don’t think it is likely.
In kanji, it would be written 件, but since the meaning is completely different from when that kanji is read けん (or くだん for that matter, although that one has overlapping meanings), it’s usually written in hiragana.
It just means a group of words (a sentence, a paragraph…). So, here, “the bit about his name” (which is indeed weird at face value, you shouldn’t live according to your name, but I think he is just making a joke personally)
Sorry for disappearing, some real life stuff had me in its claws more or less the last month but I’m back now! (Essays suck)
The obsession some people have with exams is pretty wild.
I guess Holmes’ old-timey charm also comes with certain other old-timey values…
“Oh I got so distracted by sex I couldn’t study for my exams at all” like come on, ever heard of balance and moderation?
Yeah I could’ve phrased that a bit better. I was trying to express how ridiculous that excuse is and that there’s a million options between “abstinence and studying all day” and “hedonistic orgy without studying”.
I guess it might be a symptom of growing up with his grandpa. Combined with his habit of being pretty hard on himself (and others? Sometimes?), which also might be a symptom of growing up with his grandpa?
So far I’m really liking the back stories and characterisations in this story, each of them is very …cohesive maybe? They make sense.
Btw the voice acting of the last two pages or so of this section is hilarious, does anyone know of a way I can record & share it here? (Or is that illegal?)
I forgot to reply to that.
How to clip parts of an audiobook will depend on the platform it comes from. I know there are tools for audible, for instance.
Posting, however, is more of an issue. Even if it is legal (e.g., it falls under fair use; could be the case here, I’m not an expert), the copyright owner may still complain about it, which would potentially cause a bunch of troubles to prove that it is indeed fine.
I feel like it’s just easier to provide a timestamp or something similar…
