Oh I love the artwork! Straight into my tbr list, thank you for the rec
This was just adorable!!! Already bought the next volume.
I’m dipping my toes into webtoons, and started 타인은 지옥이다 after finishing the series adaptation. The first 6 volumes (are they called volumes? chapters?) are free.
Well, all that to say, so far I am enjoying it as much as the show, and I got to the part where they mention the name of the webtoon within the webtoon, I love it when they do that
I am happy to say that I have just finished 나의 모든 밤은 너에게로 흐른다 | L25??. I was certainly not expecting to enjoy a poetry book as much as I did (let alone one about love), but reading this ended up being a very good idea. It was both extremely hard —because obviously it’s poetry and there are all these double meanings and verses mean that familiar grammar is used in unusual ways— and easier than I expected, as despite all that vocab wasn’t too crazy and the poems are quite short and therefore easier to decipher.
Loved this!!! I’ll be starting vol. 2 straight away!
I also used my Detailed language evaluations idea in a review for the first time, not sure if I’ll continue with it though.
Happy to see this thread getting more love!
Uuurgh. I know I ask this constantly: do you know if there’s a Japanese version? Stop reading such interesting books, bibliothecary.
I really need to stop lurking on the Korean side of the forums
I’m praying for your free time that bibliothecary’s able to confirm it for a language you already know.
Good news, it’s a manga!
Sweeeeet, thank you!
Edit: WHAT, it has no digital edition?? What blasphemy is this.
Ah, found it; it’s listed under a different edition.
Lately, I’ve been reading 구미호 식당 and 밤을 건너는 소년. I’m about 35% and 45% into each of them and I’m not really sure if I feel like continuing since neither one of them has really grabbed me despite being this far in. I’ve also been reading some webtoons and some of a very fun (but challenging at my current reading level) web novel that I’ve read the webtoon version of in English.
For 구미호 식당, I’m up the point where the teenager has just accused his older brother of stealing the money from the shop. I suspect that the way he remembers their relationship is probably a bit skewed, so I’m a bit curious about that and how it might develop while they’re working together at the restaurant. However, the book’s pacing is kind of slow for my taste, which is partially my fault since I read so slowly in Korean. @bizoo, since you’ve read this, is it worth finishing it based on that?
Do share!
I’ve started reading 신의 탑 1 | L24?? (free (so far) on naver), simply because I remember seeing a few years back something about a character being maybe, possibly, theoretically, aromantic and/or asexual, and I simply am willing to consume any type of content for any type of aroace crumbs.
Idk about representation so far, but I am enjoying the story. I haven’t read (or watched now that I think about it) any dark-fantasy in years, which is an absolute shame as I remember it used to be one of my favourite genres. I love not really knowing what’s happening, where the character is, why he’s there, how he ended up there (that might be because of the language barrier though, I think there was a semblance of explanation in the prologue but I didn’t really get it).
The Natively level still isn’t fixed, so I’ll make sure to rate and maybe even review it once I’m done with it. (side note: i’m reading a lvl 24 book? i was hesitant about lvl 15 just a month ago, what’s happened?? this website/forum is working its magic.)
I wrote too much so someone please read one of these
The web novel is 천재 아이돌의 연예계 공략법 (on Kakaopage but reading through other sources since they don’t like foreigners). There’s also a webtoon version. The main character used to be an idol trainee (more of a visual member) but quit after they tried to make him do shady stuff to get work.
Since then, he’s been playing games as a streamer and ends up getting sucked into an idol game, where he has to debut as an idol and discover the past of the character he’s playing as. He’s also super annoyed since his original face was way better looking and the game has basically muted (?) it so he’s playing on hard mode. It’s very funny and I love his personality. The vibes are fantastic.
The webtoons are:
-
여신님의 호랑이 공략법 (Naver; gorgeous art; fantasy historical romance with Korean mythology and a fun twisty turny plot). I was reading it in English until a brutal cliffhanger pushed me over the edge to the Korean version, where I discovered there were a whopping 40 more chapters, so now that’s where I’m staying haha.
-
문샤크: 상어가 스타성을 타고남 (Ridibooks; has a cheesy title but the art is nice and the vibes are good so far). Follows a siren princess masquerading as a human so she can fangirl over an idol and who will eventually join showbiz herself. I’ve only read 7 chapters so far since I’m doing wait until free. It’s pretty funny!
구미호 식당 is a bit of a slow burn. lf you aren’t enjoying it then I’d say best to drop it and try something else. the characters cant leave the restaurant (with one exception) so its quite samey (by design, since they are kind of in purgatory) and the climax is about them sorting out their unfinished business. I will say the ending wasn’t what i expected for the older guy, so I found it interesting in that sense, but if you arent enjoying it now then i doubt you are going to.
I’ve been reading 외모지상주의 1 | L24?? aka Lookism. Annoyingly, I can’t find the information of how many chapters there are in each volume, but considering the latest 20th volume was published around chapter 400, it should be something like 20 webtoon chapters per volume.
This is actually the webtoon that I started learning Korean to read, so I’m happy that I’m finally kind of able to read it. Only problem, it’s full of slang. So that’s a struggle, but nevertheless the story is still as good as I remember.
A commentary on how appearance affects how society can perceive you, featuring the formation of friendships, lots of fighting, bullying and many a thug. Also, while it’s not BL, there is a character that is very clearly not straight, which can lead to certain… moments. You’ll see. Romance isn’t a main focus either way.
I watched the Netflix anime they made of this and it was sooo corny imo wondering how the webtoon is because it’s kind of a classic one by this point?
I actually haven’t watched the anime, apart from like one or two episodes maybe. I was planning on it but then never got around to doing it
I would say the webtoon isn’t, but then again, I’m extremely biased . All around though, imo, there are a lot of frankly hilarious moments. And the way the author depicts the character’s expressions as well is just genius.
As an example

A children’s book about a girl who discovers she’s a quadruplet! It’s cute and fun so far, although I’d be more shocked if I walked into a room full of people wearing my face.
I just finished rereading 페인트! I’m very excited that I made it through, although I didn’t understand everything and my book (on Ridibooks) is full of highlights of confusing bits. And I didn’t even highlight all the confusing bits! Still, I’m very happy that I persisted, and that I liked the book enough to read twice.
