I watched 1.5 min. They’re talking very quickly and also not clearly enunciating everything. The fact that there’s large hard-coded subs for the entire video (and blue host highlights) suggests to me that a relevant portion of native speakers also need them to follow the content. (I was able to catch most of it, but I had to really pay attention, and still needed subs for some words). So imo it’s understandable if you’re not quite getting it. Out of curiosity, if you put it to .9x is it more intelligible?
I kinda wanna watch the rest now… But maybe I’ll just grab the book titles from it instead. I’m any case thx for sharing the vids
We’re back!!! Some gradual Stark & Fern progress?? There were some very touching moments in that ep, and it was nice to get a little more insight into Stark
花ざかりの君たちへ S1 ep 3 - continues to be a bit dumb, but very fun
シャンピニオンの魔女 S1 | L29 - yeah stuff changed up a bit. We’ve suddenly introduced some magic world building, and what I imagine is gonna be some kind of plot. W/e it is, I’m enjoying and looking forward to next ep
違国日記 S1 | L26 ep 2 - continues to be excellent and imaginative. I really love the way the teenager’s thoughts are portrayed in fantastical, but grounded visualizations. And the older character is really enjoyable and relatable as well. Suwabe Junichi even made an appearance
From the seasonals I decided to drop eris after the 2nd ep. It’s ok, but just was not grabbing me at all. Still enjoying Ikkoki Nikki and Shibou Yuugi, especially the latter. Also keeping up with Omae Gotoki though the jp sub group seems to have dropped it? I watched without subs which was fine.
Non seasonals: I finished さらざんまい which I was watching for a while. It’s a show I wanted to watch for ages but probably would never have gotten around if I wasn’t learning japanese (I had high coverage for it on jiten so I picked to watch it). I really enjoyed it!
Similiarly watched フラグタイム movie as part of my project to watch more movies, and really enjoyed it. I knew about the manga for long and assumed it was a more ecchi series, but the movie at least did not feel like it was leering at the girls. It was a pretty sweet coming of age story.
Winter anime season. Watched 押しの子 ep1, picked up 60 words. Well, not of them are entirely new, but still that’s way more than I usually find in 1 episode.
Favorite seasonal so far is 死亡遊戯 by far, for its atmosphere and MC VA performance. Hope it keeps going strong for the whole season. LN has a really low rating on natively, so probably not buying it.
I was underwhelmed by the first episode, but liked ep 2 a lot. I also really like Yoi - and the way ep 2 ended surprised me. I’m hoping it means that the series will actually be them dating and doing couple stuff rather than just cat and mouse. Kinda iffy on the male lead, in like a “he’d make me really uncomfortable and isn’t my type, but he’s a good fit for the protagonist by shoujo logic” sorta way
Ep 4 was fuuuuun!! Especially the end. Tho I’m sure it’s gonna be played as in drink and don’t remember anything, and that they won’t talk about the fact that he obviously knows
Ep 3-4 still going strong. I was not expecting her to abhor the other guy, nor to have the other member of the same idol group as a rival, but I’m curious to see where that goes. It was also just really nice to see her sticking up for him in that way. I love how savage she gets
I’ve started watching ゲーセン少女と異文化交流. I saw a clip of it on Reddit and decided to look it up and it’s about a girl that moves from the UK to Japan so it sort of has the same vibe as きんいろモゼイク . It is listed as romcom, which is… not great given the age gap between the main character and the only male character so far, but thankfully it seems one-sided so far.
It was funny, in episode 1 リリー only speaks English, and I was thinking “Huh, for English in anime, that’s not bad, I wonder who the VA is?”. Anyway, turns out it’s Sally Amaki who is a native English speaker. Which kind of flipped my opinion on the quality of the English lol. Great for a second language, kind of odd for a native speaker. I’m guessing the director asked her to make it more familiar for Japanese people
I started watching Summer Time Render. I’ve already seen it, but I was curious how much I’d understand without English subs. It’s challenging, but doable. That said, I don’t know if I want to rewatch it badly enough to watch the whole show given the difficulty.
Still only watched the first four episodes of Frieren season 1. I will get back to it at some point, but not really in the mood right now.
Other than that, I’m between shows right now. Any suggestions for an easier slice of life, comedy, romance, or drama anime? Bonus points if it’s on Netflix JP.
(Also, Netflix better get Medalist season 2. I really liked the first season and would love to watch the second.)
Oh, one other thing I want to ask. For those who watched all of Blue Box, is it worth finishing if I don’t care at all about the two main characters and only care about Hina? I watched the first 8 episodes back when it was airing and then didn’t keep up with it. I have no intention of reading the manga.
Hina was still a major focus through the end of last season, and iirc that arc isn’t fully finished yet. So depending what you’re looking for, probly yes
Reminds me I should catch up with the manga… There was some stuff going on with her last time I caught up
I’ve been wanting to test myself and re-watch it without subs at some point, but it’s quite long.. Maybe next year.
How about Hinamatsuri (lvl 27) for comedy and Toradora (lvl 26) for school romcom? I don’t see it those on your natively profile. Or perhaps something in a different style or graded easier?
I’ve seen both with English subs and don’t feel inclined to rewatch them. Style wise they’re totally fine, but something graded a little easier would be nice, yeah.
I can also vouch for 香る花は凛と咲く, as @暁のルナ suggested - the level of anime I’m able to watch is quite a bit lower than my reading level, yet that series was very comfortable to watch and also absolutely adorable.
I’m not sure if you’re specifically looking for a series, but if you’d like a film suggestion, this one was really sweet, light-hearted, and wasn’t too difficult of a watch:
