Yuri/GL/wlw book club - Reading 毎月庭つき大家つき on 27th of April

Yeah I’m confused by removing ties as well. It basically means if something you really want to read in the club is not winning, you should min max your vote to make sure it’s not tied? I mean, I don’t think anyone is quite as invested to do this, but it’s just odd that adding a vote to a pick that’s high up might make it removed from next poll instead.

I think you’re making this way more complicated than it needs to be. I’d suggest:

  1. Only remove if there’s 15+
  2. Just remove whatever the lowest 3-5 (or desirable number) on the poll are, regardless of whether they happen to be ties or not

The point of removing is to keep stale entries, that are low interest, from blocking fresh entries that are probably of interest (and thus also allowing newer participants space to nominate). This club barely has that problem in the first place. It’s usually effort to get ppl to nominate things.

If I’m being honest, there’s a lot about this club I find overly complicated. For example, I still don’t understand why the OP includes links to nominations on cooldown and nominations you can re-add, but not the actual active nominations. In the WaniKani book clubs, there’s simply a section in the OP that lists the nominations with links to their Natively page.

Regarding removing nominations, these same WaniKani clubs have a rule where if a book gets below 15% three polls in a row, it’s eliminated (everyone gets 5 votes). That’s never been a problem or led to running out of slots, but the specific percentage can be adjusted if necessary. This is only one way to do it, but I definitely think this club has removed books from the nomination list too aggressively. That’s one reason this poll cycle only has 12 options instead of closer to the maximum of 20.

It does though? It looks like the nominations are in a Natively list near the bottom of the post, above the Offshoots section:

Granted, I don’t know how well that list is maintained.

The forum list of nominations is a bit more hidden, but it is still there:

This wouldn’t necessarily be my preferred way of displaying them (I wouldn’t call that an intuitive place), but they are there.

Perhaps it would help to re-organize the home post a bit @shablul; as it is it feels a bit piece-together as stuff came up in the club.

That list has 49 items with confusing comments like “Cycle 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 6 nomination”, so it can’t be used as a current list of nominations.

Ah, that’s true. My bad, I didn’t actually click on the list beforehand.

The first 12 items are the current round, but even if they weren’t Ctrl + f (or equivalent “find”) for 6 (or “6 nomination”) does the trick. So it’s useable, even if it could be simplified.

From my logic it’s because since it’s unfair that a nomination will get removed even though another nomination that stays has the exact same amount of votes
But we only had a poll and not a reasoning debate so I’ll just reopen the vote on the subject

I simply did it in a way that I thought was tidy, no complicated reason or whatever. I also wouldn’t know how things are in the wanikani forums, I don’t have a user there.

I was hoping to make a big “recc list” with people adding comments on things they nominated and such hence how it looks, and hence I just put the current nominations always on top, but if it’s umcomperhesible then I’ll just rearrange things to have only active nominations there.

Was kinda busy so didn’t do things in the forum but I’ll add a poll on the tied nominations things today when I get home (If I hopefully don’t forget)

Will do :+1:
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate them considering that I did actually organize it in a way that felt intuitive to me personally (which apperantly isn’t to others lol )

Oh! If you take the text literally (tied nominations will all be removed), that would mean that if two entries are tied for second place, they will both be removed (just because the are tied) instead of none of them (because they both for lots of votes and there really isn’t any reason to remove them). That would be kind of insane, but it’s what I understood the rule to mean for a moment.

Which is why I wanted to do the whole “let’s put a limit on removing nominations” lol

Theres lunas suggestions too though

Edit: guys take into account that these are voted rules, I didn’t make these up myself
Hell the whole reason for the polls was that I wouldn’t need to start making things up :joy:
I got the message when a bunch of you said you’re dissatisfied and I’ll reopen a poll on the matter but I’m not gonna suddenly change rules willy nilly

Here’s an example of how you can simplify it, and focus the essential info towards the top. Note: I’d further remove the Participation list, and nominations on sale (note: formatting for tables & such got messed up):

Welcome to the Yuri/GL/wlw club :tada::tada::tada:

Voting open until the 1st of April! (See Nominations post or Natively list)

Current Polls:

Nominations

The rules
  • Each person gets 5 votes
  • You can add up to 4 new nominations, meaning that if you’re re-adding previous nominations (regardless if they’re yours or someone else’s) you can still add 4 new nominations
  • There is no cooldown in-between nominations
  • Ambiguous subtext nominations are not accepted
  • We generally read the first volume out of whatever is nominated unless voted otherwise
  • Tied winners will get a revote for a final choice
  • Nominations that are not chosen will automatically be placed in the nominations of the next round, with the exception of:
    (1) Nominations that don’t get any votes
    (2) The 3 least voted nominations
    (3) Tied nominations will all be removed
    (4) Removed nominations will have a cooling period of 1 cycle (see list )
  • To re-add nominations out of cooldown there is no need to remake a template or reintroduce the book
All you need to do is paste the nomination post link (which will be available in the above list in due time) and write something along “I want to re-add this”, “re-nominating this”, etc
For nominations you can re-add you can look through the following linked list
To sum up the cooldown/renomination thing
is the work you want to nominate in the nomination list? yes ➾ then no worries
no ⇓
is it in the cooldown list? yes ➾ then you will need to wait for the next cycle of nominations :frowning:
no ⇓
is it in the list of works you can re-add? yes ➾ then just quote/reply to the original nomination post and add a message that goes something like “re-adding this :)”
no ⇓
did you already nominate it once? yes ➾ then please tell me, I messed something up
no ⇓
then you can create a nomination for it using the template below this

What’s the intent of the list? Is it “Nominations post in list form, b/c that’s easier than looking at the forum post”, or “here’s historical info about books the yuri club was interested in, for anyone who’s curious”. If the former, then it might make sense to remove.

If you want to keep the past ones in, I’d do it like this:

  • Current nominations on top, marked as “Current Cycle” (no previous cycle info)
  • Past Winners with “Cycle X Winner”
  • Everything else, maybe with comments only & no past cycle info (unless others here think that’s useful?)

Which is fairly close to what you have now. I don’t use the list tho, so I don’t have a strong opinion, but I kinda like that it has past nominations - cuz it’s an easy way for ppl to discover/remember stuff (if that’s the point)

that was the point yea, but I don’t think anyone is using it that way so converting it to the former with previous winners added as an extra might be the best option

looks great!!! I’ll try copy-pasting how you did it instead :+1:

Regarding the Tied votes getting removed issue

I’m adding a revote poll on the matter, please note that I made it possible to vote more than one option, meaning whatever you feel like is fair doesn’t necessarily contradict each other except for the 2 first answers, so just vote whatever
Please note: this will apply for the next cycle but not the current one since voting already started and I don’t want to complicate things further

  • Keep it as it is, tied votes get removed together
  • make it that the lowest votes list-wise and regardless of ties get removed
  • Keep as it is and add a limit of up to 8 nominations getting removed
  • Keep as it is but only remove if there are above 15 nominations
  • Idk

Thanks for reopening the poll!

Wouldn’t be surprised if some of us even voted for those rules and forgot :joy:

Speaking of ties… I just created a tie in the current poll  and hope somebody else will break it, since it’s the last day (sry about that )

I removed all my votes since I decided I don’t want to join any book club right now, it’s not a tie anymore.
