Sounds good; I’ll wait some, and if something isn’t posted by EOD today, I’ll put up a thread.
The new thread for this week is here! Sorry about it being late, I’m currently struggling (and failing really) to find an internship, so I’ve been super busy.
Thank you! And no worries about being late; just let us know if you need one of us to post for a week, it’s no issue.
Reminder to post this week’s thread, @HopeWaterfall!
Thanks! Starting from next week, I’ll probably be posting the new thread on Sundays instead. It should be a lot more manageable, as I’ll be less likely to collapse in tiredness on the weekend and end up not updating the thread, which is what happened yesterday.
(I also accidentally posted the opening message for this week’s thread in this one instead, so that’s what the deleted post is )
I’ve just realized that I forgot to post this week’s thread. Now unfortunately, I just left my house and won’t have access to my computer until this evening (in about 10 hours). Since my phone isn’t letting me make the thread, it’ll have to wait till I get home.
If anyone doesn’t want to wait though, feel free to post it instead .
Hope you don’t mind @HopeWaterfall, I’ve put up this week’s thread. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Week 13 is up!
In other news, I’m going to be really busy come this July, so I’ve been checking off a few book clubs ahead of time. I’m thinking Ciudad will be my next one, since we’re getting pretty close to the end.
I put up a thread for week 14
I finished the book a bit early! My thoughts (full, unmarked spoilers) below the cut.
My thoughts
I enjoyed it! The middle was a bit of a ‘eh’ part for me, and after finishing I think it’s just because I have little to no interest in the natives and their lives, haha. My interest picked back up as soon as Alex and Nadia met back up with the international team. Despite that, though, I enjoyed the book as a whole; Allende’s imagery was beautiful, and I really appreciated how she didn’t end up adding a romance into it; I like a book where two opposite sex protagonists don’t necessarily hook up. (They’re pretty young, granted, but you know what I mean.)
I wouldn’t mind picking up the second book at some point, but not immediately, I think. I did think this book ended up being a really good choice for my first intensively-read book in…years. I definitely feel like my Spanish understanding improved quite a bit by the end, and while my speed did improve a bit, what I’m most happy with is my reading endurance growing.
I really enjoyed reading with everyone! Looking forward to our next book.
I can’t post more than 3 times without anyone else replying. Here is week 18 thread.
Replying for you!
Thread for the final week. I’m enjoying reading the comments from those still working their way through the earlier chapters.
